Quick Sports Contests

Any one have a quick resolution for sports contests?

In this case I want to blow through a water polo match quickly w/o RP'ing it out or re-inventing the wheel.

Thanks!

Can use the skills appropriate to the sport as modifiers.

If you wanted something a little slower could make each team get a roll per play (or whatever the sport uses) with the modifiers from the various team members applying to see how gets a point for that play.

That qualifies as re-inventing the wheel. :)

I was hoping there was something either in a FORUM/WEBZINE or some old CT product that addressed the subject.

Actually, now you mention it that does ring a bell or two. I think there was a JTAS article on grav ball or some such. And a "Doing It My Way" article on a Traveller fan site about sports. Or the other way around, or some such way around, or other... I can't recall specifics but maybe someone else will :)

...OEL?

EDIT: Found the "Doing It My Way" page but not the article, not by a quick title scan anyway :-(

Grav Ball was a boardgame. See: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/5876/grav-ball

In the files area on that page is a reworking of the rules from the game. I've not looked at it, but you might be able to get some ideas from that.

Went thru Freelance & Zho Base. Base seems to have started an article in '99 and stopped after a paragraph or two, RFL had some games but light on rules.

I have rules for 2 Z-G games GRAVBALL and EAGLES both GURPS based. Eagles is a free floating game with object to intercept and pull streamers off ankles, from William Forstchen novel.

So I went with re-invent the wheel.

Had each player roll 2d6DEX and goalie 2d6 DEX+1 per player as a quick contest to see who scores and who doesn't. Should work in similar fast paced games i.e. hockey. No one has Athletics in game.
