Question about what are the best paints out there to use?

GW metalics are great as well as their new inks.

P3 from Privateer Press are pretty much the best range out there for consistencey and coverage.

Foundry are great for sheer volume of colours...

I use P3 almost exclusively with the exception of Tin Bitz, because that color is just too awesome to be out-done.

For my EA, I actually use Pig Iron. Makes the most impressive utilitarian look in my opinion.

I'm not fond of the Reaper metallics because they don't have as much metallic pigment in them, at least the ones I've used. The GW metallics go on smooth and give a strong metallic sheen, where as the the Reaper ones don't have that deep metallic look to them. That's not to say I haven't found uses for the Reaper metallics, I just prefer GW's for most metal work.

Must be the old Pro range you used then?
The Master range is excellent. There is a differnce however, the GW metallics are using bigger pigments for them than the Master series. That is a matter of taste and I think both works, however the big pigments in the GW range make them less sutible to airbrush with.

i use a mixture of Vallejo and P3 and a couple of Rackhams too.

it's just a case of finding what colours from what ranges you like i suppose.

Even though P3 also has some good paints in thier range, I decided to drop them from further consideration because I required dropper bottles that makes mixing your own colors a lot easier and they just had the old GW style bottles which I really don't like.

Also the Reaper Triad System is a quite a helpful tool that really sold me on the range.
The P3 range is much more limited than Reapers as well.

Price is not a major concern I think if you spend a lot of time painting, it's still a cheap hobby.

I did some research and found out the GW Paints are infact a bit more exspensive the P3 Paints. However, P3 is a bit limited in paints then GW. As for the bottles are concern. I never had a issue with them.

For those who don't know yet. Games Workshop has just releast their version of a airbrush that is design for their paints only. Has any one tried that out yet

For those who paint EA miniatues. Just wondering what type of grey do you any of you use. Just a thought?

I use a custom mix of GW paints. Codex Grey darkened with Black and with some Mithril Silver to give it a metallic look. This evening I'll try to upload some pictures.

It was recalled within days of it going on sale. Design flaw they said.

On airbrushes - does anyone use airbrushes for painting CTA minatures.
For airbrushing in general what model of airbrush is best. I am considering a Badger Universal, mostly for terrain work and wwII vehicles, don't think I will be using it much for CTA except, (maybe baseboards)

I use a similiar method with my colors, that, is, adding a bit of silver for the metallic look. Works very well to give the pearly-color for the whites. For the dark grays (like Omega destroyerss) I do this but usually wind up layering from a dark gray and shading up a bit in 2 or 3 steps to a lighter highlight. Keeping the silver bit keeps the metallic feel throughout though.
