Question about Pavis Rises

Cassius

Mongoose
Hi Guys,

I was wondering while it is an adventure book how much of Pavis Rises is going to be setting material?

Reason I ask is while I dont like running published adventures preferring to make up my own I would be quite interested in it if enough of the book is just info on Pavis and the area that I can extract for my games

It's about 50/50.

Pavis as a city is detailed with a chapter on resources such as encounter tables, prices, background and so forth. The gazetteer chapter is chock-full of description, NPCs, plot hooks, agendas, and so on. Plenty for a sandbox style campaign to get its teeth into and plenty of inspiration for GMs who like to craft their own adventures.

The scenarios form a linked campaign but are also standalone too. So you can slot them easily into your own campaign.

Funnily enough, I stressed the importance of the maps just the other day.

Yes, it will have maps. A full city map, a district map for Free City (which is the urban area that becomes Man Side and Real City in the 3rd Age), plus additional maps for the scenarios. I've got dozens of sketch maps ready to go to the cartographer as this book nears completion.

So now you're all set to use them on the "tender-parts" of the Mongoose layout artiste....

Nah, Charlie Law has whips and crops for that kind of thing.

Seems we're about to start a campaign. Odds are we'll start with Blood of Orlanth, most likely with a God Learner or possibly Orlanthi group. How compatible would that be with the adventures in Pavis Rising?

I.e. what do the adventures assume about the characters. BoO is great that way, pretty much anyone fits in, while Dara Happa Stirs is way on the other end of the spectrum.

There shouldn't be problem. Simply engineer for the party to get to Pavis and take it from there. The book supports both sandbox exploration and specific, world-shaking events, but its not as culturally focused as Dara Happa Stirs.

Great! Getting them to Pavis shouldn't be a problem, we all have fond memories of the old Borderlands/Pavis/Big Rubble campaign I ran back in the day...

/Jonas, feeling nostalgic
