Quality control is a must!

QC is vital... and seems a bit weak on the MRQ line... missing stats in Monsters (and the SRD), numerous small typos, no rules presented for damage per location figuring for non-standard critter locations...

Its a strong base... but it's not of the quality I'm expecting for $18/pdf, or $30/book.

Hi guys,

You can help us out here - we have a standard agreement that we will replace any book that is regarded as substandard, no matter whether it is from a customer, retailer or distributor. However, our message is not seeming to get everywhere it needs to be!

If you see such books in a store, please drop me a line (or get the store to do so) at msprange@mongoosepublishing.com, with appropriate contact details for the store, and we will exchange the books quicker than you can shake a dead Broo!

Can you point me to something that I can print out and show to the guy who runs the local comic book store? He might want to know how to exchange a book that will never sell for full price and get a book that would sell for full price.

Unfortunately, motivating him to do something can be difficult. But if I can hand him the books that are in bad condition and a printout of exactly what to do to exchange the book, there is a chance that something might happen.

(Or maybe I can just tell him to sell me the book for half price, and then exchange it myself, but it would be good if I can teach him to do this with future books.)

I noticed slight warping of the cover of Hawkmoon here as well. It's very minor and I still bought it but still it sounds like more than a few are having this problem.

On the other hand I saw another hardcover Mongoose book(Paranoia Flashbacks) at the same store and it's cover was perfectly fine.

The cover of my Hawkmoon book is also slightly warped. It's still readable, but I cannot lie the book flat, and it creeks when I open it or turn a page. All my other Mongoose books are fine.

Isn't "Flashbacks" a pre-in house printing book (the one with YCBBB, Sends in The Clones, Vapours don't shoot Back etc)? You would need to compare it against Flashbacks 2 (Orcbusters, Peoples Glorious Revolutionary Adventure etc) to be comparing like with like.

My impression is that the cover warping is affecting all Mongoose books, though I haven't actually gone round checking (and the shrinkwrappting does a good job of holding the covers down too...)

Since the Players Guide to Glorantha came out every single new Mongoose book I have seen in the three game stores that I frequent in central London have had warped covers. This includes Trolls, Jrustela, Clanking City, Hawkmoon, Granbretan, Elric, Pirates and some Babylon 5 books.

Now it may be that all the ones with normal covers have been bought before I got there each time, but we are still talking about dozens of books. People still seem to be buying them, but it has certainly put me off buying books that I might have bought out of casual interest like Pirates and Elric.

As it is I'm hoping that the problem will be sorted out in time for my next major purchase which will be Conan 2nd Edition.

The ones being produced now are coming from our own printing facility (Flashbacks went out of print quite some time ago!).

Would that include books that are sub-standard in that they contain rules, examples and tables that don't agree with each other, and which have half of their rules unnecessarily hived off into a second slim volume?

Or Cult supplements that are sub-standard due to the rules changing after submission and the editor not understanding Glorantha resulting in unworkable rules and Cults lacking their signature spells (and again too many hardback covers for what should sensibly have been a single volume...)

If you are genuinely unhappy with a book, contact us. Happy to call it quits with you.

My only complaints about the books coming out of your own printers are, the grey screens are to dark Never go darker than 20% on uncoated paper, this is due to dot gain), and the text is to close to the gutter, and you yeep using EM and EN dashes wrong, (When using an EM dash to connect two ideas in a single sentence (or even title) you do not put a space infront of or after the EM dash, EN dashes are used mostly in numerical connections), these are things your designer needs to fix.

Man, that was a nasty one! :)
Something like what I could have said if I hadn't allready given up on the MRQ rules...
