Q-Con XIV

How many players have we got? I was thinking, if there are not so many. Why not just do a bloody great big battle, and we can all bring a fleet each of what we want?

Why is everyone going with Minbos? Is there some sort of killer combination I don't know about at 1 point Armageddon??

Don't know about killer kombo's but I might be tempted to try 2 Sharlins just for fun of it. You can't use pair of Sharlins in 5 poin tournie so this would allow attempting that :D

Pair of those among the most iconic(certainly in fear factor, only beaten by Vorlons and Shadows) ships of show could be fun.

Oww bugger. Shouldn't have checked this thread. Now I'm actually THINKING about attending this...Would cost me roughly 100£ and require short air travel(me hates those. Boring as hell) but looks more viable than attending say Mongoose tournament

But to further these plans: How long you think it's going to take to get from airport to the venue and more critically the otherway around?

Annoyingly seems like the later the return hour the more expensive flight...

it would take around 10 mins via taxi to get from the George Best Airport to Queens University, and vice versa. Just don't get a flight to Belfast International Airport cos it's about 20 freakin miles from Belfast ffs.

There'll be around 8-10 people at the tournament, so it's not a washout by any means!

Washout?

But thanks for the airplane tip. Wonder though wether I might have to change place where I get tickets from...What of following would be correct choise?

Belfast All Belfast Airports BFS
Belfast Belfast City Arpt BHD
Belfast Belfast Intl Arpt BFS

its Belfast City Airport you're looking for - it's now called the George Best Airport.

Thanks.

Have to concider this. In theory it's pretty feasible. ~60£ for plane ticket, 30£ for accomodation, 10£ for event fee, food...Time schedelude is nice(6PM starting time is handy) and seems like getting there won't be too hard even for someone like me who can get lost if given chance .

Would be interesting experience and probably LOT cheaper to do it here than after I get back to Finland

Well, I've finalised my fleet for the Acta Tournament, and I'm definitely going Dilgar. Of course, I'll only be playing if there's an odd number of players there, so I'll make up the numbers, so to speak.

I'll also be implementing Hash's idea of Sportsmanship points - each player will award their combatant a score from 1 to 5 (1 being low and 5 being high), and each player will receive the average of these scores.

I would also like to implement a "Best Painted Fleet" award, so put your brushes to 11!!

Should be a good day, as long as there is little to no cheesy fleets!

I will be at Q-Con again this year running a wide variety of games, including Dr Who rpg, Heroes rpg and Alien Nation rpg all using the Runequest mechanics at their core(check out the Q-Con site for more details), so will be around to give a hand with ACTA if needed.

One more thing if anyone can make it on Thursday we should be hosting our second annual Mongoose Infantry BBQ, which if it is anything at all like last year will go down a storm, so bring a bottle if your old enough or something to cook with ya if you have a special diet.

Marc

Plus, a huge thanks to Mongoose for supplying some prizes for the tournament. I'll be taking some pictures/video on the day, so I'll post some goodies up here after the tourney!!!! :D

Just got back from QCon, and I have to say that it was a fantastic weekend! The Acta tournament was very close, and it had some excellent skirmishes throughout the day. Congratulations to Burger for coming in first place.

The tournament was a 1 point Armageddon tournament, and each person played 3 games.

The fleets and the players were:

thePirv - Drakh
Black Omega - ISA
Colm - Vree
Burger - Minbari
Hash - Shadows
Reaverman - Vorlon

The first round line-up was as follows:
Minbari v Vree - Minbari won 20-0
Shadows v ISA - ISA won 20-0
Vorlons v Drakh - Vorlons won 17-3

The second round line-up was as follows:
Minbari v ISA - Minbari won 20-0
Drakh v Shadows - Drakh won 20-0
Vree v Vorlon - Vree won 17-3

The third and final line-up was as follows:
Drakh v Minbari - Drakh won 17-3
ISA v Vorlon - Vorlon won 17-3
Shadows v Vree - Vree won 20-0

The final standings were:
1st - 43 points - Burger - Minbari
2nd - 40 points - thePirv - Drakh
3rd - 37 points - Colm - Vree
3rd - 37 points - Reaverman - Vorlon
4th - 23 points - Black Omega - ISA
5th - 0 points - Hash - Shadows

Best Painted Fleet award - Reaverman

It was a fantastic tournament, and I hope everyone had a great day. it was interesting to note that the Sentient Rabbits crowd never met each other in the tournament at all.

My thanks to those that participated, and I hope to have a short film of the tournament up on the internet very soon!

I got my rear end handed to me in that one :)

My fault for taking the Shadow Ship on it's own but I did have fun and my games were still close (ish, the Vree wiped me out without breaking a sweat - wow those torpedoes really hurt!)

I gave the ISA and the Drakh a run for their money though (1pt damage away from taking out a mothership BEFORE it unleashed a full complement of raiders...)

For the record I took:

1 Shadow Ship - Armageddon (yes dumb choice but I had such a cool model for it...;) )

Players I played against (1pt Armageddon):

Black Omega (ISA): 5 Whitestars, 3 wings of T-bolts

The Pirv (Drakh): 1 Mothership, 1 Drakh Cruiser, 2 Light Cruisers (mothership carried 3 Hvy and 3 Lt raiders + 2 scouts).

Colm (Vree):...I think it was 6 Xixx and 10 Vaarka, I don't remember I just remember almost losing the Ship in the first round of mass torpedo fire!

1pt Armageddon is ok for tournaments I think but the little vs. large principle still holds, (more lower priority ships are more often than not better than less higher priority choices).

Still, fantastic tournament all round and kudos to Tenacious B for organising everything (and curse him for beating me to tied second place in the Twilight Imperium tournament too!)

Great weekend and great tournament, thanks to TB for organizing it all :D

For the record my fleet was Neshatan, Shantavi and 2x Leshath.

I brought 1 LC, and 2 Destroyers
And an impressive LC and 2 Destroyers they were

Yeah, Twiglet was a good game - best game we've ever played. Definitely like the idea you guys are gonna run with in regards to this game, and we will definitely be over to play it once its finished!
