Putting my traveller "stuff" on the net

LotusBlossom

Mongoose
Whats the deal with that?

Can I use the Traveller logo?
I looked at the developers pack, seems like I need permission from mongoose.

Or should I just use a generic format that alludes to certain use of traveller skills and stats.

And have any of you fine people used any software you can recommend for making plans/deckplans, etc

Cheers!

For any material specific for the OTU setting, we still don't know; Mongoose is still working on the Fair Use Policy for this.

For any non-OTU material, you have two options:

1) Not use the Traveller logo, and then just use the Open Game License (OGL). You could use anything which appears in the Standard reference Document (SRD) any way you want, just stick the OGL license at the end of any major text file you post online (for smaller texts, just add a legal section with the OGL license to the relevant section). In fact, you could even publish material COMMERCIALLY using that license.

2) Use the Traveller logo and officially claim compatibility with Traveller. In this case, you'll have to comply to the Traveller Logo License (TLL) included in the above file AND send a signed written/faxed form (also included in the file) to Mongoose and receive written authorization from them. This won't cost you any money, though (apart for the postage/faxage costs, that is).

What is OTU?
Official Traveller Universe, also known as the Third Imperium (although that's only a part of the OTU, actually). It's the established previously-published Traveller setting, which is copyrigthed. At the moment, Mongoose is working on a Fan Policy to define what people can put on the web, if anything, relating to the OTU.

As for deckplans, I use AutoCAD and SketchUp, but I hear AutoRealm is popular and free.

Thanks. I did actually already try the Autorealm thing, but I can't seem to get hold of symbols for airlocks and the like and my art skills are only slightly better than my dog's. And I don't even have a dog.

I asked on my "home board", and this is what I got as a reply:

Import graphics for use as symbols
AutoREALM has the ability to import graphics. The best way would be to
use WMF files since AutoREALM is based on vectors, but bitmaps can be
used too. Just go to File -> Insert (or Ctrl-J). Under "Files of type" you
can select between AuR, AuRX, WMF/WMF, BMP and JPG.

So, if I do not misunderstand this, you should be able to "borrow" sym-
bols, from other programs or even from published deckplans, without
much of o problem - although you should of course ask the authors of
the material before you use their stuff.

Do you know where I can get a pdf copy of the original BRP pamphlet from waaay back?
No, I've never come across one - maybe it's to do with the "not for resale" printed across the top right corner of the front cover? Actually, it's probably more to do with Chaosium and Greg Stafford and all that saga ...

I've still got my dog-eared and ...something...-stained copy here in front of me. The rules (but not the original document) can be found online.
