Public Apology to Martin J. Dougherty

Quite some time back, in my capacity as Channel Manager for the Undernet IRC channel #Traveller, I ran a Guested Chat with Martin as the guest. There turned out to be some TECHNICAL problems that I wasn't aware of, and as a side effect of those technical problems, I'm afraid I mistreated Martin, failed to let him get the 'say' I'd offered him, and in general gave him a bad impression of me, of the other participants, and of IRC in general.

I also never publicly apologized for that, although I believe I did send him a private apology. Since the offenses in question were in fact committed in a public forum, I feel that Martin is entitled to a public apology.

Martin, I'm sorry. I screwed that session up badly, and didn't even think to check for the possibility of technical problems that were interfering with your full participation in that forum. I ask that you not hold it against the forum in general, or against any of the other participants, but limit any resentment on that to me, personally, as the party responsible for (mis)managing the situation.

The long version is on TAS. The short one:

There were technical problems but the real issue was the way the other participants treated me. This was not your fault, it was theirs. Their conduce was inexcusable, though understandable - I said something that contradited their agenda.

Not your fault.

I appreciated the apology back then just as now, but none of it was your fault.

We're good.
