Psions as Jedi

I'm considering buying Book 4: Psion. I'm wondering how good the book for making Jedi. Do they have the ability to deflect energy weapons? Can they leap, etc.? Any thoughts?

More generally, how well can Traveller mimic Star Wars?

Part of the Psionic Powers chapter includes the creation of new psionic powers. You can make or change anything to fit your campaign.

While in my opinion the Traveller Psion book powers are not as comic book (for lack of a better terminology) fantastic as Star Wars it could easily be adapted to do so. I think you would probably need some testing to get it to how you want it though. I'm sure some would disagree though.

You can vary the strength of the Psion by multiplying the amoint of PSI points they have to play with

Thanks for the info. It helps get a bit of a feel.

Has anyone actually tried using Psion to make Jedi? Has anyone play tested them?

Not directly. However, plenty of material already exists in the Traveller core rulebook to enable you to create such an order. You could blend the Noble career with Psion, perhaps creating a hybrid career melding one of the Noble sub careers with the Adept or Psi Warrior career sub career paths.

And another example: Book 4: Psion has the Mystic Order career already: you might want to check out that book and mine it for ideas.

You can define the Jedi order with descriptors such as "noble, compassionate, scholarly" and also "hubristic, corrupt, hidebound." That would help you to colour in a typical NPC Jedi: often stuffy, dreadfully sure of herself, perhaps a little set in her ways.

Now the Sith, on the other hand ...
