Progress on 2e

Well they should have a way to just fire your weapons and hope you hit something like they did in the B5 movie in the beginning. where EA came across the minbari fleet they could not lock on so they just fired blindly and got some lucky hits. you should roll for stealth and if you fail then you should just roll your attack dice if you get 6s then roll them again and on a 5-6 confirm you hit em or something like that. if you make the stealth roll then just do what ever is normal.

I'm not saying it shouldn't be like the series - what I'm saying is that I find the current mechanic can be frustrating and is just not, in my opinion, fun either way. I believe it's worth exploring and discussing alternatives that can reflect the spirit of the series...in a less annoying way. Does that make sense?

After all the current mechanism already compromise s with series background...think about it - when did you see EA "make a successful stealth roll" vs. the Minbari ships with active stealth on? Or for that matter any race apart from EA have problems locking on to Minbari vessels? (Shadows, Drakh and other Minbari never seemed to have ANY problems!)

My point was about what I saw as frustrating mechanics in general however rather than trying to single out stealth (although it is perhaps the best example).

I was not going against what you where saying I was writeing in a suggestion on how they could make it possible to still do something when you fail to make it so you could get lucky and hit them like in the movie as i stated before where just just shot in the direction and hoped there weapons hit the minbari ships. I just threw out a idea on how it could be done in a easier fashon fail stealth then roll your attack dice if you get a 6 then roll again on a 5 or 6 you hit. just a idea for them use not make it easy but to still give you a chance to hit them on accendent. however this is all comeing form a guy who dose nto have the rules yet and only knows whats been in the forums. but is my idea good for the stealth issue. oh and Im going to play minbari lol. I play normally Warhammer warhammer 40k and battlefleet gothic. droping BFG and going for B5.

Here, here. It's really frustrating to have a whole ship just kinda sit there because of a single die roll. Like I said, the Inaccurate fire at least gives you the chance of killing Dukhat.

Against a Hull 5 target, you go from 1 in 3 chance of hitting to 1 in 9. That's going to effectively shut down Beam weapons and really hamper anything else, even Twin Linked weapons. It gets even more horrible with Hull 6 targets. But at least I'd have the chance to roll the dice.

I hope that the campaign duty/refit tables are more interesting this time around. And that the "replace your ship" punishment roll that the Narn have is removed from the table. If we wanted a different ship we'd buy one, not roll it.

An easier way of putting your idea would be fail your stealth roll, hit on 6's with no weapon traits, then 1-4 would be bulkheads, 5-6 normal hit.
Kinda liked the inaccurate idea of rerolling sucessful hits.

I would like to see reinforced hull disappear also. A few extra points of Damage with no way to increase crew AND it slows you down...

I don't mind reinforced hull but that might have to do with my dream of the Narn breaking the laws of physics via the method of Sho'kos carrying Sho'kos carrying Sho'kos and so on. :D

here here!! In total agreement wit hyou there, that was an awful refit, and indeed in many circumstances was a punishment, especially to a ship that had refits already.

A good look at refit tables would be welcome and refreshing to know that 2e is not just a stat revision ;) (although I would like the whole area of campaign creation revised ;) )

To shift subject a little, speaking as a Centauri player - I very much like the choices I have at all PLs at the moment (from Patrol to Armageddon there is a good viable choice!) - so am very cautious regarding proposed changes to the fleet, especially as it has been hinted the changes are utterly drastic in 2e and will completely change the Centauri play style...any more insight any has into that that you want to / are able to share for comment?

does sound a bit iffy doesn't it. I kinda hate the centaurio on principle, but they did have a great, although mildly broken fleet list. I just hope it isn't broken beyond recognition

I too feel the same way as Hiff, I may well be a Narn kinda guy I do like to play other fleets now and again and the Centauri one however much I disliek the race is a good one to play.

I have some faith in what is being planned for them. Do you think Kattader or EP would have been this quiet if the changes were terrible? We have all seen Kattaders comments about the new e-mine rules.

They are going to be a different fleet, perhaps a very different fleet. To tell you the truth, I'm kind of excited to see what's going to happen to them.

but for one moment playing devils advocate, EP and Katedder may like them, but that doesn't mean we will :-)
EP wanted to change Centauri for a long time, I think his origional idea was more what we see inthe show, de-beamed, but with lots of um, was it plasma weapons? I'd have to go looking through past posts

Matt has promised an article about the changes in next month's S&P. I am hesitant to reveal any more than he has already commented upon. Of course since I'm coming to your tourney in a couple of weeks, you could get me drunk afterwards nd I'll spill everything. :D

What about something like a special action called "Manual Firing" where if you are under half range to the target you can only fire 1 arc (or even only 1 weapon), completely ignoring stealth, but all weapon AD are reduced by half rounding down. You would basically be flodding the area with munitions hoping to hit the sneaky git. Beams seem a little too precise for this kind of tactic so I would say they are inelligible for this Special Action.
