I suppose it would depend on how recently the events which made the ship famous occurred.

Have to be before the current owners got the ship, but I have never liked the Ship Quirks table. It has things on it that there is no way to accomplish in game, such as "Well-Maintained".

Wouldn't that be the crew with the reputation then and not the ship specifically?

My guess would be that the previous crew did all the above, and actually did sell their piece of crap (but well loved!) ship.
The guy reselling it, is using the long litany of it's famous deeds to try to inflate it's value, because it really isn't worth the price the players are about to spend.
