Mongoose
Hello all,
I remember years ago when Mongoose began printing the LW books, being super jazzed to pick up the series again. However, after ordering the first 2 books and being extremely underwhelmed by the quality of the bindings (the spine on my Book 2 broke the very first time I opened it)and the number of errors in the books I walked away and have not given Mongoose any further business. I simply was not willing to part with my money for what I considered to be a sub par product, especially one that billed itself as a Collector's Edition.

All that being said, I still love Lone Wolf and would consider ordering these books again depending on the following;

1. Has the issue with the book bindings been corrected?

2. Have the errors found in the earlier books been weeded out in subsequent printings?

And
3. What is the quality like on the newer books in the series as far as errors go?

Thanks for any responses!

Hi DragnMstr

As previously said, the book bindings have been resolved. As of Book 5 Mongoose started using a different company to print the books with a big increase in quality - not sure if you can get the first 4 books in this format as I haven't tried.

In terms of errors, yes they are still creeping in. Less than before though. To a degree it's natural - pretty much every book ever printed contains errors!

However I would recommend you get them. The bonus-adventures are really good and the overall quality of the books has picked up considerably.

Again, as with all my posts on this subject, this is not meant to start a flame war. I am simply sharing my feelings and opinions with someone who requested them.

1. Bindings - Yes, the book bindings have been corrected. All books I received were very well made and pretty, in the case of physical quality. Artwork, both internal and external is also very nice.

2. Errors - Some yes, but mostly no. I have observed 'some' errors reported before my purchase as being repaired in my copies, but each book still contains several unrepaired errors. All stuff I've mentioned before. They vary from game-effecting to just slightly annoying. For your reference:

Most noteable is the missing equipment lists from Books 4 and 7.
Book 8 contains a missing section link.
Book 5 contains an incorrect section link that links from Part II of the book back to Part I.
Book 3 contains some improper formating.
Many books contain the incorrect action charts for their mini-adventures, having had the previous books chart cut and paste into them.
Book 7 mini-adventure has either an incorrect rules section, or an error in a monster's CS, as it features a player with CS 10-19 fighting a monster with CS 28.

Those are off the top of my head. There are others, but they are similar in scale to those mentioned.

3. The quality does seem to be improving as the series goes on. I would reserve judgement on this until the release of Book 14. My hopes are that it's delays are to ferret out errors such as these.

I hope this post has been helpful in regards to aiding you in determining if these versions are something you would like to own.
