Playtest Rules clarifications needed thus far:

if you lose an arc you lose all weapons in that arc.
this means if you lose boresight you cannot fire the weapons in that arc, even if you can change its arc. same applies to shadow beam.
these weapons are classed as in the arc listed so are lost if that arc is lost. as you cannot fire that weapon you cannot change its arc.
otherwise with turrets you could say oh well lost my turret but will just fire it forward arc as it can fire in any arc.

I see this a lot in the British games, maybe Americans are just a nastier bunch of people, but we need rules to keep us from killing each other over a minor play disagreement.

I hear this a lot from our US cousins, but to be honest, in my experience I really don't see that much of a difference between US and British (or perhaps more correctly ex-British Empire!) games.

Dave

As already stated, two different interperatations can be equally valid, so just saying "use common sense" is a load of nonsense. Rather than wasting energy trying to think up bad reasons to leave ambiguousness in a given rule, wouldn't it be common sense to just tweak the wording on the rule so that it says what is intended?

I guess I should say 'hear from British designers/players' vs the American crowd, but my exposure is limited.

We seem to take some pride in taking the broken fleet to a tourney to 'prove it's an issue, no matter how much fun must be ground under heel.'

But it is also that most of the 'groups' I encounter seem to consist of three to four folks, with some cross with another group so that tourney's can get formed easily. This leads to lots of folks putting up with stuff they don't like to get a game in at all.

So it's put up with some bad behavior or don't play at all, tight rules lead to less bad behavior, or at least give you the means to shut it down.

And yes this should have stayed a list, but that would have needed a sticky at the top with a big sign saying 'Don't Post on Pain of Death!'

Reasonable people? While we all know this is indeed the fact min-maxs who play to win the Games Workshop style bad players apply the same logic to this game.

It's quite simple - don't play them. Problem solved.

Fully agreed. This is a game after all and no one force you to play with bad players that take all the fun out of it.

Foxmiester: I presume you've actually played games with other people?

Everyone has a different opinion and play style even if it's only slight. Hence you'll always get a clash of views. Your approach of "It's my way or the highway" will mean you'll have no one to play the game with.

I for one don't mind badly written rules as long as there's a way to clarify (i.e. this forum) but isn't it better to catch all the problems in the first place?

However I do agree with Foxmiester on his clarification in that if you follow the rules as written then you'd lose the weapon when you resolve the lost fire arc, then common sense says that weapon can't fire period.

Well there were two British players who took very broken Gaim fleets to a tourney. I don't know whether they were trying to prove a point or trying to win at all costs. I do know one of them is proud of his 20-0 tourney wins.

There should be an tourney rule. If you take a broken cheese fleet to a tourney. You forfeit the right to attend the next one :D.

i took a fairly balanced fleet for the gaim at the time with a raid queen instead of multiple skirmish queens and only one carrier.
