Playing all of the EA

I had an idea for a campaign that I might be in: not playing a specific age of the EA, but sort of combining them. The idea is that the fleet assigned to the Admiral I'll be playing will not be the best fleet out there....in fact, it will be a fleet with many old ships, with the most advanced ship in it being a Marathon, but it would also have Oracle scouts and several Olympus corvettes instead of having Delphis and Chronos respectively...so is that against the rules? And if not, do you think that the campaign "leaders" would be against said idea?

If everyone agrees to it there's no reason you shouldn't play it that way. I'm personally not a fan of the three seperate lists anyway.

I personally don't see a reason to shy away from Crusade Era. I can barely keep surviving with the most advanced technology I have... why take a hit for no reason?

Its a themed fleet, with the idea of "ok, we don't have a lot of ships available right now, so we'll give you some of the old and some of the new".

It would probably be alright for friendly games or if you've pre-agreed it with the tournement organiser. Generally though I'd stick to the official fleet lists for tournements and big official events.

Make up a revised fleet list? If opponents agree to it then everyone is happy? As long as you are not abusive they probably will.......... :)

A couple of my friends do the same thing for Warhammer 40K at our local gaming club. They still get games but a lot of people tend to stray away from facing those armies because no matter how you try and balance them they always have a habbit of tending to be more powerful than they should be. So by all means go for it, but inform your opponent first and be willing to play a standard fleet if they refuse.

It's going to be a friendly campaign run by friends, so it shouldnt be too hard to secure their blessing....and yes, the idea is that this the fleet that gets sent to some less than "dangerous" area, and that all the neat new shiny ships are on the frontlines....then trouble shows up...

The thing you want to be careful of though is using the ships from one fleetlist to fill out the deficiencies in another and thus unbalancing it. For example if you took a crusade fleet and chucked a bunch of Saggitarius in for cheap massed fire support I would raise an eyebrow....

Basically the thing to avoid is when your 'mixed' fleet ends up taking the best ships from each era's list and leaving the slightly weaker options on the sideline...

The best you can do is take the Crusade era fleet list, and then replace ships with older versions.

Like the Chronos is a skirmish lvl escort/rail gun carrier, instead of that one you get Artemis gunships......

More or less, then you shouldnt be straying too far from the path. But in friendly games or campaigns, it should be ok.

I think you mean Olympus, which is the ship the Chronos was designed to replace. Could be wrong as I dont have my books to hand and Burgers shipviewer is being a tad slow to open for some reason but I think youll find the artemis is still IN the crusade list...

ok, my first draft

Patrol:
Aurora Starfury
Badger Starfury
Breaching Pod
Hermes
Thunderbolt

Skirmish:
Artemis
Hyperion (Assault)
Olympus
Oracle

Raid:
Avenger
Hyperion
Nova

Battle:
0-1 Hyperion (Command)
0-1 Marathon
Omega
Omega (Pulse)

War:
0-1 Omega (Command)

As you can see, its just a slight mod from the normal list

I'd add something like 0-2 Chronos frigates as skirmish level options and maybe the Myrmidon LCV at patrol. As it is you've got a mix of the early and 3rd age list with a single Marathon added a load of other choices taken away...

The idea was for ships like those to not be available....that they were being used elsewhere for more important things.....but I'll consider it

Remember the Poseidon also spans the Third Age and Crusade lists.
Right, but again, this is supposed to be a limited list, so having a super carrier would not work for the list
