Played my first VAS game today

I just came from playing my first VAS game - we thoroughly enjoyed it, but a couple of questions came up:

1. when do you lose crew points? is it every time you lose a damage point or only as a result of critical hits?

2. can a ship fire on another if the target is completely behind another ship?

We're planning on having another go at it next sunday, and are trying to get this sorted out before that!

Crew is only lost when the crit table says so or you have fires burning. Ships do not block LOS.

I'd just ignore the whole crew thing as it is nearly impossible to de-crew a vessel in VaS. Unless you want to make some house rules to make it workable that is.

As for 2) the only things that block LoS are land and smoke, and radar can aim over both of them.

I agree. I ignore the whole crew numbers aspect and it doesn't affect the game at all.

Never had a vessel lose enough crew to make it worthwhile, but yet we still record it....
...about time to drop it I think
