Pla list

4000ptspla

Mongoose
hi all
just a quick question to the PLA players out there, is it just me or are the PLA too expensive for what they do? and is anyone else frustrated with the almost total abscence of legitamate options for the PLA?

eg if I played EFTF I could field either an infantry section (140pts-8 minis and an armour save) an anti tank section (225 pts and can fire the laws twice a turn +make reactions with them) or an SAS squad (where are we? muhahaha! you won't know till it's too late) whereas as a PLA player I can only field one type of squad (190 pts 10guys 2 rocket launchers that can only fire once no exceptions and a machine gun, no armour save)

I am aware of the play test units(I particularly like the aa truck) and EVO command but neither are legitamite options (they may be soon)

I'm a bit pissed off that the british get a squad that can knock out 3 tanks a turn for the price of 225 pts(400 pts would have been fairer concidering what the LAWS do ) and nothing similar has been done for the PLA (after all that was the only advantage the PLA had was that they could go up against a tank and have a 1 in 10 chance of killing it)

Also any advice on how to win using an armoured PLA force would be appreciated. or infact if thats possible.

Question is... Will the PLA even still exist when Modern Combat comes out? I've only read Matt mentioned USMC, Brit Army, MEA, and "possibly" Russia and US Army.

We are indeed planning on the PLA being represented in Modern Combat, and we are taking all comments about them on board!

sorry lads I meant for evo. 4000pts is what I can field at the moment including aircraft and substitutions (a 1/72 T34 doubles nicely as an AA truck or APC and hummers make great favs)

and the point still stands that either the PLA infantry squad is either Greatly overpriced at 190 pts or the british anti tank squad is greatly underpriced at 225 in evo and that's just one example (have I mentioned the annoying lack of armour saves on guys wearing bullet broof vests?(it might only be a six up save but it would help)) 20 years ago every army equipped their troops with bullet proof vests or so I'm told)

then theres the fact that the PLA don't have official AA where as the USMC (lav unit card in s&P) and MEA does (tonguuska wave 3)(I have to let the EFTF off on that one they don't seem to have anything AA even in the playtest units(I dont want to but I have to))

the play test helicopter is too underpowered and why is a fav worth 75 pts when a shadow which is infinately better costs 70 pts? (a hummer 30 pts? how is the ability to roll 3d6 extra worth 45 pts?)

I like evo it's a great rules set but I get the feeling the PLA list is simply a hoge podge of the worst unit types from other armies in one place. the tank is the MEA tank (play test unit) with one inch less move and twenty five points dearer at 350 pts, the APC is ok but it cant knock out the fire the way the usmc and eftf can (2d6+2 is not an endorsment to go after a tank) some people like the technical but I dont and what makes a technical great is it's dirt cheap (60-70pts?) and why don't the PLA get APS? with arguably the worst tank in the game I think we need it.

This topic has come up several times over at http://forum.evocommand.com/ I do believe there was a point imbalance agains t the PLA, but with the new playtest rules some of the imbalances have been addressed. WE'll see if they all will be when the PLA army list gets released.

fair point but I was hoping to get info on what PLA players thought was the most egregious examples of points imbalance against the PLA and then either try to fix it myself (by submitting suggestions to Mongoose directly) or by stimulating enough discussion as to suggest to the game desiginers that they might put a few units on s&p for us to address the imbalance (Id be going for option b there cause if I could do it myself then i'd be trying to sell my own game system)

Heres a link of the official playtest cards, i didn't see a EFTF anti-tank unit but you may find something useful.

Those are severely outdated Jay.

The EFTF anti-tank section showed up in S&P as an official card some months ago.

Personally, I felt the PLA were given short shrift with what got officially released, but with a fuller list - say if you had access to the playtest stats, they worked very well with a balanced combined arms list.

ive spoken to matt about this in person in the past..

persoanly my view is the list needs to eb modified not the points.. and it would work out

this is how i would do it without altering the points values

armoured list for every tank bought the next of tha same type and modifications is at half cost

infantry force for every full infantry squad you get a the next squad at half points cost

this basicly means a infantry force would be troop heavy as it should be and a tank force would be tank heavy and over alot of playing it did seem the forces on average were out by 25% and this would adress some of that problem.

i have been considering getting an tuskina and repainting it as an pla AA vehicle.
its russian the chinese could have it. :)

but an points cost break on fielding compleate formations could be an good fix on basic units..

my 2 penneys....

The PLA has indeed been extensively adjusted (and is currently in playtest).

Assuming it's also in modern combat, the EQ2050 is a much better choice than the Tunguska. It's cheaper, has better SAMs and in BF Evo it would have been 2 per support choice.
