Pillars of the Earth

No, I'm not. Though, having said that, I'll probably buy it when it comes out on video. I'm not much of a TV watcher (can't stand the commercials).

From what little I have seen of it, it does look pretty well done. There's a number of actors in it that I enjoy seeing.

'Course, never having read the book (or it's sequel) I'll have no frame of reference to compare it to when I do see it (the book's always better, though, IMHO).

I "only" read the book, some 14 years ago.

12th century. About the construction of a cathedral in England (in the fictitious town of Kingsbridge in the as fictitious county Shiring). Also a civil war that takes place at the time, but the protagonists aren't very involved in that.

It's quite a good read, but what I remember as annoying is a clear pattern that continues through the entire (~1000 page) book: every time the author describes at length how well everything is working out, and the plans are coming together, a catastrophe will ensue within the next 3 pages.

The whole story extends over several generations.

So they've made that into a tv show now?
