Phoenix Con games

I played Call to Arms for the first time at the Arizona Phoenix games con.
Great game and I'll be getting a set in August.

Anyone else local to the Phoenix area play? I can usually be found at Warboss Games on Saturday nights.

Also, any suggestions on composing a mixed fleet for non-aligned worlds?

what size fleet are you looking at building for a league fleet?

some great ships. Bimith touch as old boots, and has more dice than Tanks dice box (if you meet tank, he has thousands of dice, that each get used once in a game!) Although the bimith is slow, if It gets into an enemy formation, it will start breaking things!. The kaliva, excelent long range weapon, can take some puinishment too. Low priority drazi ships (ok i forget the name) fast, decent maneuvreability, and a beam on a patrol ship? brilliant!. the two new warships, the Corumai and juyaca both look pretty hot. I would say the Juyaca is the better of the two overall. Vree scouts, best in the game, dirt cheap at patrol, good stealth, and can keep out of most peoples weapons range/arcs. These fleets however may well be changed a tad in second ed, about 8 weeks from now.

At the convention, I only had access to the basic books. I have no clue of the stats for anything else (but I am combing through the Signs & Portents for what I can).

My goal is have a fleet as diverse as possiable without being stupid about it.

I like the Vree ships. My 'learn to play' game was 2 Xill against 2 Whitestars. Draw game.

What ships age good compliments to each other? I thought a Brokados with 2 Xill as anti figher screen would be good. Any other good combos?

Remember, I'm a total beginner here.

well the vree scouts are favored by many league players since they're some of the cheapest (ie, low priority level) but a lot of advice on what works well with what might change a bit in the upcoming 2E.

Generally, the League is fairly diverse -

Drazi can be hard to learn because of limited fighters, limited weaponry (lots of boresights) and I wouldn't recommend it for beginners

The vree (saucer fleets!) are very maneauverable and have some great weapons, but are thin-skinned. They die easily to beams but that will need re-evaluating in 2nd edition.

The brakiri are pretty much a good general fleet, they have a little bit of everything, and a good spread of ships at different priority levels.

The Abbai have loads of defenses - ie interceptors, but this mechanic and the abbai is getting overhauled in 2E I believe - someone with better knowledge may correct me here...

and the Pak'Ma'Ra, well I don't have any experience with them yet so I can't offer any advice there...

my advice if you simply must buy a fleet box and can't wait would be to pick up a brakiri fleet box - otherwise you may wish to wait for 2E to arrive.
Either way, welcome to ACTA and hope you enjoy playing!

Bad dice doesn't help either. My mate in the weekend fired 24 beam dice at a Tigara & got 3 hits.
I find extremely funny but i know i will be on the opposite end of the reverse roll especially since i find it so funny.

Wish Id had a better collection of books i could have showed you 8))

Ironwolf and 2 other players kicked my clarkist butt in a demo game took forever to maul 1 of his vree saucers and i lost a Nova doing it!!

yeah, nova's not a good ship to take against vree actually. too slow and unmaneauverable. the vree can just back away and snipe you - I nearly lost a pulse omega doing that. no, you need a good ranged weapon to do much. absent that, speed 8 and 2/45 at least...

What I'm likely going to do is pick up a few (cheap) ships just to start a collection and not make any major decisions until I can see the new book.

At fourty bucks a pop, I want to make sure I get the best one and I won't know which one that is until I can see the new book.

For sure, I'll get a Xill. After that, I guess it will be whatever strikes my fancy.

well, eventually, if you can afford it at one shot, a fleet box will have more bang for the buck pricewise - that is, they're usually cheaper than buying the same models piecemeal. Some don't have a really good mix of ships unfortunately (minbari come to mind) but it depends on which fleet you settle on.
