Pavis Rising

Any news on this? It's still listed as being released this month (September) but I seem to recall someone on these boards mentioning a delay.

Looks like I'm going to be breaking a habit of a life time and buy the printed copy.

Are you making use of any of the themes/info previously compiled in the Pavis Companions by Ian Thomson's:
The Masks of Pavis
The Measure
etc

Will there be some nifty maps?
What cults will there be:
Black Fang
Pavis

Heres hoping the Pavis book is good as P& BR was back in the dawn or roleplaying :)

Surely not Black Fang. Way too early - the guy isn't born until well into the third age let alone the dying and becoming the spirit on which the cult is formed.

I find this period of Pavis to be absolutely fascinating. The deeds of Pavis (the hero) are fairly recent history. There are probably people who have heard first-hand tales (from their grandfather) of Pavis still around.

Pavis isn't a formal cult yet (not as it will become in the Third Age) and its too early for Black Fang.

Flintnail, Lanbril and Zola Fel are all detailed though.

Is the book still poised for September release? Only 9 days left. ;)

We're finishing off some maps and editing touches. Not sure on the production cycle thereafter.

BF's cult started about 1400st, fancy forgetting that one of my first characters was a Black Fang Assassin, he ended up being crucified by the Lunars.

Is Zola Fel's cult going to be shammanistic or Divine?
I noticed in the heroquest material it shifted to shammanistic.

After establishing the city, the guy must still have a pretty big 'hero cult' even if he hasn't reached 'god' status yet...
He's marched the faceless city across the Wastes:
Wrestled with Waha
kicked Kyger litor and Oakfed butt,
Cut a deal with Zola Fel and the Paps,
and becomes a friend of Orlanth.
Then put together a massive city in the middle of hostile territory.

As far as I remember the Pavis' cult was up and running in the late 800's when Kyrem founded the Arrowsmith Dynasty. Then its all down hill after 1150's with Nomads and Uz invading the city. YGMV :)

At what point is the book set?

Loz Still confused
If the siege of the Machine City starts in 907st (ATG in the Middle Sea Kingdom), does this mean the time line for Pavis is not concurrent with this?
I thought Pavis vanished into Myth about 850st, givinge 57 years to build up.

Does this mean:
There is no uniformed time period other than 'The Second Age'
or
Has the time shifted back prior to his appothosis - when he is still walking about and pulling the city in to shape.

Its not particularly important the dudes can generate new PCs,

'Pavis Rises' is set in 922. Several reasons for this.

First, it makes it concurrent with 'Dara Happa Stirs' (you'll see why when you read the scenarios) and also places it at the time Jaldon Goldentooth is ascending to power with the Praxian clans.

Second, Zistorwal's fallen, which gives some scope for the fallout of what happened there.

Third, it makes Pavis concurrent with 'Living Glorantha'. Although we've made no formal announcement on this, Living Glorantha is set from 920 onwards, to take advantage of the weird and wonderful stuff happening at around this time.

Glorantha books are ostensibly set in 908 onwards, unless otherwise stated. I don't think there'll be too many that will be outside this general timeframe, but Pavis is an exception because it has a detailed canonical timeline already set.

As to Lord Pavis's status as a god: there is an emerging cult in Pavis, but not one that gifts magic. Pavis himself has gone into seclusion with only a handfull of people having access to him. For the most part he's an absentee landlord with power devolved to the Arrowsmiths and Ginkizzie. His cult, as described in the 3rd Age, will take a long time to build up, and at the time of the campaign its in that nascent stage.

Does this clarify things?

That's a shame, in some ways - any GM that starts their campaign based around the Pavis Rises book is missing out on the possibility of visiting Zistorwal. I'm really looking forward to my players' first visit to the Clanking City.

Well, as a GM you can change the year of Zistorwal's Siege, if you want. There is no canon police! :P

Such a great deal happens between 900 and 935 (The Closing) that trying to make all the cool and groovy things fit is an impossible task.

I set the precedent with 'Dara Happa Stirs'; things happen there that tie into 'Pavis Rises', and to have not taken advantage of that relationship would have been to deny lots of things that make Pavis the place it is.

That meant that its set after Zistorwal falls, but there's nothing preventing you from shifting the timelines in Your Glorantha to accommodate Zistorwal too, or not having it fall, or even sticking to canon and using the ruins. Even though Zistor is destroyed I can see tons of scope for adventure in and about the ruins - perhaps more so than when the city is under siege.

I shall have my cake and eat it then - a visit to Zistorwal in all its glory, an excursion onto the Hero Plane from the Questing Laboratories, and upon return, a dramatic escape from the destruction of the city! Then, rescue missions and looting runs into the runis! Good job my players don't read the forums...

Just noticed Pavis Rising is no longer listed on the site, did it get delayed?
That always seems to happen for a day or two when a product release slips from one month into the next.
