Paranoia...

Mongoose
Thanks for posting this, Matt, it's always intriguing to find out what goes on behind the scenes. Anyway, to my pet subject :)

My guess on the lower-than-expected sales for Internal Security and High Programmers is that Troubleshooter-based Paranoia play has 25 years of tradition and happy memories behind it... Based on that, plus the small RPG market, the lack of massive advertising budgets etc, i think Mongoose should be pretty happy with the new core books selling 20% higher than Troubleshooter supplements.

On supplements generally: if attach rates are low, have you considered aping the Strontium Dog model and pouring resources into one glorious mega-sourcebook? You're doing it for adventures with the Flashbacks series, so why not for non-adventure supplements too? One blaze-of-glory weighty tome, groaning with extra material, equipment and world fluff, which most everyone who owned 1+ core book would at least be tempted by?

The idea of a Sectorbook has been kicked around since the Mongoose relaunch; there were rumours of a new Acute Paranoia being under consideration; and there's all the material from the Stuff books, which weren't on the Black Missions CD... lump all that in together! Call it the new Acute Paranoia, call it the new DOA Sector Travelog / the Alpha Complex Sourcebook / One True Splatbook / whatever, but make the pagecount and wordcount high, get Allen and Gareth involved, make it compatible with all three lines, and release it in 2012 - I am certain that would make more money than several 32-page adventures. Most GMs make the adventures up as they go along anyway :)

Also, any chance of Quilliams doing some internals? I really liked the High Programmers cover, it feels like he's got a proper grip on the source material now.

80 views, and nobody has chipped in to say they like the idea of one massive sourcebook, so maybe I'll shut up now :D
