Pak for newbies?

Looking to start an ACTA army and I like the Pak. Are they a good race to begin with? Or should I stick to one of the older, more developed races (Centauri)?

Thanks!

Well that is kind of tough to say. The stats for them were just released yesterday so it remains to be seen if they are good, bad or somewhere in between. I'm sure the playtesters could shed some light since they have been using them far longer than the general populace, but I'd give it another or week or two before deciding to go with them.

They look interesting, but the verdict is still out. I'm planning on doing a 5 point raid game against 3rd age EA to see how well they do. I suspect the 6 ship per squadron rule will benefit them greatly.

They're a pretty solid race and have a good variety of ships - all of which are effective at the moment (unlike some races). They do have some real tacitical drawbacks such as low initiative, easy to kill fighters, etc. but to some degree so does every fleet.

The Pak'ma'ra are fairly easy to use too so you shouldn't have a steep learning curve. Also, nobody else is familiar with them at the moment so that should help :)

Triggy, is it still correct as Matt satated in another thread that Concentrate all firepower will now require a crew quality check? If so, that might be something to worry about when using the Pak'ma'ra.

That is true :(

You'll be able to turn with it too though :)

A lot of the Pak'ma'ra strength is is good multiple fire arcs anyway so CAF is less useful for them than other races anyway.
