Paint quality (no ranting please)

Mr Evil

Mongoose
well as we all know the uproar about wave 1 pics, well rakam has hit the same problem now with AT-43 !!!

the forum is full of complaints about mini quality from the squad box sets. about loose fitting parts, globs of paint, and loss of detail.

looks like these are gonna be teathing problems for any company at the moment trying to produce prepaint minis for the wargamer market for a time.

so why am i posting this, well just to let you all be aware thia is all new, a new way of painting and collecting minis, sow e will have to try and remain suportive and patient with this new product type from varies compinies hitting the the stores.

but i think mongoose got away with it better than rakam. and unlike rakam did respond and read our posts.

I think this is all due to the fact that, rather being done by a machine as I'd somehow lead myself to believe they're base coated, before being painted by a disinterested communist, qualities bound to be lower than expected...
I wonder what Mcfarlane's secret is the knights in those Dragons packs are around 28mm and they're pretty tasty!

The main challenge at this stage I suppose is a consistant paint job over the range, quality can be improved as time goes on, from what Mongooseoldbear's saying it sounds like they're at that stage with the Evo stuff right now

Maybe they should try the guys who paint the EM-4 gladiators. I picked up a set at Penarth on Saturday (in a complete set that allows you to play arena-style gladiator combats, with rules, dice, fold-out arena map) for a tenner and the figures are extremely good. They do quite a few different pre-painted sets, all of which were on display at the show and the quality was consistently good. I expect the sheer numbers of figures being painted isn't on a par with AT-43 or Evo, but I guess it shows what can be achieved in the prepainted wargaming market.

The pictures on the site don't really do the figures justice.

American Civil War, which should be interesting since historical prepaints are a big step towards prepainted credibility (I.E you're more likly to see favourable coverage in the glossy mainstream mags), absolutly no idea what they'll look like, but with the success of Warhammer Ancient Battles they should do well.

Thats the closest pic of those Gladiators on their site.
I think they sell some stuff through Ebay as well as the online store already linked to, you might find some pictures there.

can you link me to more info on the prepainted ACW, were getting into this at the moment, and so far my friend is buying prepainted armys of ebay at high cost and varied quality.

I think they mentioned it on TMP, but I can never find the search bar on that damn site :D
They wont be out for a long while yet though, they've had the rights for the old Grenadier fantasy miniatures for god knows how long and have only released the barbarians thus far...
