other Traveller books in 2300AD?

I know the main Traveller rulebook is used for 2300AD. Are any other Traveller books particularly useful to have to use in a 2300AD? What rules and ideas translate well between the two?

It is largely self-contained. No other books are needed. When material was required from other books (like High Guard) it was included. That being said, Cybernetics is useful, and so is Robots. Creating new vehicles would require the new Book 5-6: Vehicles.

There is useful material in all of the Traveller books, but aside from the Core book, no other books are needed.

Okay, sounds good. Here's hoping the book makes it out in March. I've always wanted to play a Traveller campaign but the default 3rd Imperium is just so big. I can wrap my head around Earth and three arms a bit better.

No real need to worry about the size, can also start out wherever you want and just limited the campaign to a single subsector or something. Even outside the 3rd Imperium (such as Reft sector) could work. But whatever works for you. The point is to have some fun.
