OTC and NOTC

Thinking about a character that starts his career as an officer. In older editions of Traveller the character could go to college and enter either OTC or NOTC. This got me to thinking:

A character wants to enter into either the Navy, Marines, or Army but as an officer. He would enter into the Scholar career for one term. The character would have to state that he wants to enter either the Army, Marines, or Navy. Army and Marines would be OTC and Navy would be NOTC.

The character can choose any assignment. He must off course pass is Qualification roll, Survival roll, and Advancement roll (this last one simulates the character getting his degree within the four year alloted time limit) The character would also have to pass the chosen military career's Enlistment roll (to simulate passing OTC or NOTC).

Assuming the character passed all rolls then he musters out of the Scholar career and enters his chosen military career as Rank 1. The character also gets either Leadership or Tactics (any) for passing OTC.

If a character enters into the Physician speciality he may then choose to stay in the Scholar career for one more term as long as he stays in the Physician specialty. He must pass both Survival and Advancement rolls (the last being again to achieve his medical degree). The character then musters out of the Scholar career and enters into his chosen military career. For Army and Marines he can only enter into the Support specialty (for that term at least) or for the Navy he enters into the Crew/Line specialty as rank 2. The character would also have to have Medic-2 skill (simulates being a Dr.)

As for retirement none of these terms within the Scholar career count as terms within his military career.

So what do you think? :)

I think the idea is good, but I prefer the pre-enlistment options from this
file as a base to develop my own system:

If a character took the Physician career path, he or she would emerge with an officer commission, Medic skill of at least 3 and the entitlement to be referred to as "Doctor" and have "MD" after their name. Choosing to begin in Med School automatically qualifies the character as a military medic and gives him or her at least an O-1 rank on assumption of military duty.

Those one or two starting terms do count as terms spent in the military, for the purpose of determining mustering out benefits - even if one of those mustering out benefits is always a doctor's bag, given to the character on departure from Med School ...)

Thanks for the link. That is also a good method. My method was thought over while listening to Black Sabbath.
