Original Lone Wolf Novels

I believe there were 11 novels originally, and it appears from an entry on www.subgamers.com that they were or are available on CD - does anyone know the truth of this and whether they are still available ??

Is there any chance of these things being reprinted in English ??

regards

Gregor

There were 12 novels. At one point Paul Barnett (aka John Grant) had rewritten the novels and had them available on his website. I beleive the rewritten versions emphasised his own characters in the books over the events surrounding Lone Wolf.

Hang on, so not only was he happy with severely disrespecting Joe Devers world that he was allowed to write about but he then insisted on rewriting his stuff to make it even more unlike anything Joe'd like and released it privately for his tiny fanbase? This guy's got serious problems with cooperation (not to mention his massive ego).

They're not that hard to get on eBay anymore. They used to be horribly expensive, then for some reason the bottom dropped out and you can get all 12 for around US$120 nowadays.

The first few aren't difficult to find on ebay or second hand book shops, the last few are still quite difficult to get hold of, in my experience.

John Grant's site: http://www.johngrantpaulbarnett.com/

Note: if you do try and get hold of them, the US editions split book 1 into two books, and so the numbering system is different.

I don't see where you get disreapect from. Joe retained the final word on what got in and did not get in in the series. From what I heard there was little argument between them except for the Epilogue of one of the books which as far as I know was altered to the way Joe wanted it.

If I would take a guess at what the re-editing is about, then I'd say this is most likely sections the publisher cut because they wanted to keep down book size or other publishing reasons, something you do not have to worry about in the same way when you publish books in PDF format.

Did he have the whole books up for download, or just the bits he changed? I remember reading an interview with him saying the published ones weren't exactly the ones he'd wanted and that maybe he'd rewrite them in the future.

I think he put the whole books up, although I don't know for sure. I wasn't that interested when I saw it, to be honest, and it was a while ago.

It was the whole books that went up as PDF's.

Going through some old mails I can also see that there was a republication in Italian language sometime about summer 2004. At that time he was looking for an English publisher of the edition of the books that was being published in Italian.

i have bought books 1-6 pdfs on original CD from the writer.

I want to buy books 7-12 now but he doesn"t answer anymore

also requested in Proj. Aeon but it doesn"t help

pdfs and writer seems to be disappeared.

Paul hasn't disappeared - I e-mailed him last week about getting the novels republished, what with the interest of the new LW publishing. He replied swiftly.

I bought them all in PDF when he was offering them. There are a few differences, but not lots, and nothing that fundamently changes the plot.
