Just wondering what exactly was wrong with defender wins on dual sucess or dual failure?

Imagine two characters playing Chess at 90%. Let's say White is the "attacker" and Bloack the "defender".


If the defender wins if both succeed:
Attacker Wins: 09%
Defender Wins: 90%
Both Fail 1%

Hardly an even contest, despite being the opponents being evenly matched (technically this situation shouls slightly favor White, but mathematically it should be around 50-50).
