Online Realtime Traveller game...

GamerDude

Cosmic Mongoose
I just got a Lifetime subscription to iTabletop, the VTT program. With it 15 people can be logged into a game at one time, normally each has to have a paid membership.

The account I signed up for can actually handle 11 people who have signed up for a free account (called a "Vagabond" account). The software is currently Windows only and provides for online dice rolling, voice and video chat and is quite good.

The company is also in development of a newer multi-platform version called Silvertable which is built on Microsoft's Silverlight browser add-in (like Flash and Shockwave).

So I'm looking to start up in the near future a game of Traveller using this system, and I'm looking for 5 to 6 players. I'm on Pacific time and would like to hear from potential players before finalizing a few details.

Feel free to PM me if you're interested, leave me an email and any other details you feel are important.

Thanks

Well if we can manipulate the time zone difference so that its at a reasonable euro time zone play I would be up for a game.

I think things like this are going to become more popular over time.

I am currently running a Instant messaging Traveller game doing this.
No dice rolls or voice, but it seems to work reasonably well so far.

Good luck on your game.

I prefer IRC myself for playing.

I know how that can go with timezones, in one IRC based game where players are in Pacific (GMT -8/-7), Eastern (GMT -5/-4) and GMT/BST. Can work but doesn't always make it easy.

Hey, not every system works best for everyone.

I like VTTs where we can have a visual of the map, like drawing it out, and tokens for monsters and characters etc.

oh, the time zone thing just got more interesting as we have a possible player from Alaska, which is GMT -8/-9.

Can use a separate program such as MapTools if that capability is needed. Which is free and Java based, not tied to one os.

looked at it..

iTabletops new version, Silvertable, will be on every platform Microsoft's Silverlight is on.

This won't cost any of my players a dime, I paid the $200 for a lifetime account which will let me have 11 free players on.

Well, still cost you money for that. But guess you have already done that so not really important. Just mentioning the option for others who may be interested.

I've been looking for a mgt vtt game for a little while and might be interested depending on the time of play (est. here). I dont have or plan on getting a camera anytime soon, hopefully it's not 100% necessary.

I looked at itabletop for a while, but have been working with maptools for the time being. It has worked well for the savage worlds game I am in.

I haven't played traveller in many years, but mgt has peaked my interest once again.

I did a Traveller VTT game once using webcams. It was fabulously fun! We all meet on Mondays at 5PM and played in real time.

Nowadays I do playbyweb. Here is my latest Traveller game which does have a few player openings:

Before PBW and VTT I did the old tabletop games, they were fun too.

This site looks very good and I'm sure will produce a great gaming experience.

Hello GamerDude,

I saw your post on the Mongoose Traveller Forum for a online Traveller game. I might be interested in playing. I live in Bellevue WA so your time zone works well for me considering you are just on the other side of the mountains from me. What I am looking for in a online game is one that is played preferably on a week day Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday works well for me with maybe an occasional Sunday game. Also, I am looking at playing once a month maybe twice a month due to other gaming commitments. If this works for your plans let me know.

I am game for joining up here, though my time zone is EST, so it'll be a little bit difficult, but I have a lot of availability.

If you have an interest in this please email me at albiegamer@gmail.com

When it kicks off we will start by using the current version of iTabletop (http://www.itabletop.com).

I have a lifetime GM's license so no one need pay, but you need a free account at iTabletop.

Webcam nice but optional to start, microphone and headset a must (no mic/speaker combos because I'm not putting up with everyone hearing each other on delay from that).

This applies to everyone interested even if we've already chatted via pm and/or email.

Signing out.

Ok,

The program I'm going to use will be the new version of iTabletop called "SilverTable", which is being developed on Microsoft's Silverlight v3. So far in the videos it looks very very cool. This will be available for beta on Oct 31st (yea pagan holidays! - not that there's anything wrong with that). Please go get your iTabletop account (if you don't already have one) and PM me the name.

So, I'd like people to start posting here the times they are or could be available. Please give all times as"DAY, LOCAL/PST and SESSION LENGTH". Once I have this info from everyone I'll look at a day & time to propose.

Also, what kind of game would you like to see as the predominant style... Any of the types listed in the Trav Core book, or maybe Hammer's Slammers, or Strontium Dog (still waiting for that stuff to arrive).

Thanks.
Al B.
