This is one campaign setting where there are ample resouces. Listed below are just a few of the many web sites providing maps, historical and mythological background material. If anyone finds any others that are particulary helpful, please post them. --THawk

That's a great list of maps!

Of all of them, the IAM maps really stand out as excellent.

One thing to keep in mind, though, is how Greece (and other places) varied across history. In a mythic game, there's no Messene - it was built in the 4th century - but Pylos should be there, on the west coast near Messene. Mycene and Tiryns would exist, but not (IIRC) Argos.

The IAM website has a pointer to another which is taking over their maps; this site has even more, including many for Roman times, but also several for Egypt at different points in time, including both Pharaonic and later times.

I'm going to try to use the terrain-only map from IAM to create a map for "Mythic Greece" with places like Pylos, Mycenae, Tiryns, Calydon (site of the great boar hunt), etc. It'd be nice to include places like Colchis - where the Golden Fleece was - but I think they'll be off the map. :)

Hi Yarul,

If you wandered in by accident, "OGL Ancients" is a roleplaying game like Dungeons and Dragons for adventures in the ancient world. It's fairly general in that it doesn't contain too much background information in it, but could be used for historical or mythical gaming in Greece or Egypt at a number of points in time.

Anyhow the maps are useful material for knowing where different places are in the game (historical/mythical) world, obviously.
