Ok let's talk settings?

Mongoose
Hello everyone,

So I am 43+ yrs old and have been playing/GMing one era or another for the past 30+ yrs. Now I really enjoyed CT, Mega Traveller, Traveller T20, and so on. Currently I have purchased Traveller Hero put out buy ComStar Games 1248 era and I think it is by far the best setting to date. It doesn't rehash the same old past and moves on beyond that crap of the Virus and etc. It also has the flavor and feel of what Traveller was way back in the beginning.

Now what I would like to know is how is Mongoose Pub and/or T5 by Marc Miller going to be different or just rehash the same old Traveller settings again?

Well they already said they're doing Judge Dredd and Starship Troopers in Traveller system and another one (I forget which). I imagine several years from now they may redo B5 in Traveller system.

As far as the OTU, I know that Mongoose is going to be doing some stuff with it, but beyond knowing that they are going to be doing SOMETHING with it, I don't know.

BTW, Hi Neighbor (I'm in Pemberton).

EDIT: How about Macho Women With Guns, Traveller Edition *Hopeful*

BTW, what is OTU?

OTU is the Official Traveller Universe. Seeing as the setting has lasted for 30 years in various incarnations, though it was short on detail, a lot of material has accumulated over the decades. Often people prefer different periods of history in the setting.

Due to house rules and campaign evolution, even campaigns set in the the same time period can vary greatly.

while I agree that in general new things need to be done to the game to make it fresh, NOT doing a setting book for the Imperium setting circa 1105 would probably be a mistake. Start there, get it out of the way, then move on.

Hello Neighbor 'dmccoy1693', actually I am in Rancocas Villiage

I must say my longest campaign run lasted 3.5 yrs and in game terms started in 1105 and went to 1117 and was set in the Verge subsector. I always hated the Computer Virus idea, would have much perferred a Bio hazard plague something like Resident Evil or etc...!!!hmmm Flesh eating Zombies in space...cool!!!

I believe that Martin J. Dougherty (MJD) at Avenger/Comstar has been contracted to do a Spinward Marches book circa 1110 (ish). MJD is the same guy who wrote the 1248 Sourcebook and was a major writer on the T20 stuff.

That says that the "Classic Era" will be represented at least. I ASSUME (you know what happens when you do that) that the Third Imperium history will be maintained. I don't think Mongoose or Marc Miller want to throw out everything that has gone before. They may redo some of the Sectors or timelines to their system, hopefully fixing most of the bugs, but the OTU (Third Imperium) will be the Home Setting for Mongoose.

Once the rules are out, presumably as OGL, then others could develop Alternate Traveller Universes (ATUs) to their hearts content. They may need some kind of license from Marc Miller or Mongoose, but 'official' alternate settings should be possible.

Well I hope for some rework, their is nothing wrong with also adding in a Bio Plague also being released in a region of space as well as part of the history. Maybe it wasn't all the far spread or little is even know about it but it could have happened at the same time as the Virus Plague. Heck a infected Virus AI could have even released the plague even, all that really that would get destroyed mostly would be that nasty Humaniti creatures anyway. The machines would be left!

See... I'm thinking the "Harvester" concept of bio-armageddon from Master of Orion 3...

...best of both worlds!

There was a plage in the history: the Snow Plague, aka the Duskiir Plague. Interstellar Wars period, IIRC.

Exactly what I suggested in his other thread. I think Harvesters rock.

I would love to see a Hawkwind/Space Ritual influenced campaign setting, although I'd have serious doubts about commercial appeal, and whether it's even possible to make it coherent!

Only if RTT is designed to mesh with B5 in enough key areas to keep B5 fandom happy. They are legion, and they are happy with B5 as-is.

SO, if you can think of some areas where RTT can work with B5, with relatively little effort, let Mongoose Gar know about it and your interest.

It could be that, if RTT had enough resemblence to B5, then Traveller players might start buying B5 sourcebooks...

Possible settings has been a topic with my gaming group for the past few weeks. Our old CT games were run in the "Dune" universe and it was always a lot of fun.

There are some really cool new settings out there that may also be fun:
(If the rights could be snagged)
Mass Effect
Tabula Rasa
Dune
Farscape

I have had a running Traveller campaign for the past 25 yrs based in
the Verge subsector and It is perfect for adventuring.

Legion? We sold one copy at two stores and that guy bought the book to read not to play. There are a ton of B5 fans but I have seen little interest in the B5 rpg.

I didn't buy the base B5 book until it was $5 at my FLGS... and that for curiousity. (It was a 1st ed, and was discounted because 2nd came out...)

I won't touch the d20 system for B5...
