1. Read Beowulf.

2. Vampire The Dark Ages posted a book called "The Wolves of the Sea" or something like that, it was all about Vikings and was a VERY good source of info on that area/time.

3. Just modify some D&D or other games and change the settings, switch out lords with Jarls and Kings, switch out baronies and counties with homesteads or villages.

4. Since we're talking about Conan, we're talking about land based adventures anyway so don't worry about the sea-going part.

5. Have them raid Cimmeria like the way the vikings raided Europe.
