Noobie Question: Campaign scenario generator and Fleet Point

Alcibiades

Mongoose
Loved the series and got drawn into ACTA despite deep roots in historical gaming. Prefer campaigns and was hoping to set one up to introduce ACTA to our group. Came across an intrepretation on review of the rules which I hope the experienced guys/gals out there can help me with. Thanks is advance.

Page 81, 2nd ed. is clear on how to determine the priority level of the scenario. However, not sure how fleet points work. Does each player determine his/her own fleet points based upon his/her dice roll plus or minus the modifier, or, is it the combined modified scores of both players that determines the amount of fleet points? I suspect it is the former but...

Also, I understand that there are casting quality issues with some Mongoose's B5 models. Does this problem run throughout their range or on just some models? A friend of mine just received a Narn box fleet, some of the models missing parts, and some heavily laden with flash that required a fair bit of work. Not a great way to encourage new comers when there are so many brilliant figures/models available today and at lower prices (referring mostly to historicals as my knowledge of sci-fi and fantasy is somewhat limited).

Just my 2 cents (now worth something....the rise of the Canuck dollar!). Thanks again.

the fleet point you determine is how much for each side, at the stated priority level. The fleet book (P. 2&3) then has a talbe that instructs on how a point of varying PL may be broken down or combined to purchase smaller or bigger ships.

yes, you add the modifiers...

Thanks Chern, but still confused.

My question is how do you arrive at the fleet points total?

Eg. Player A wants a large encounter in the hopes of seriously damaging his opponent so chooses a +3 modifier. Player B does not wish to commit so chooses a -3 modifier. Player A rolls a 6, Player B rolls a 3 for a total of 9 resulting in a Battle Priority Level. How many points may each player spend on his/her fleet?

ah. well it depends on the scenario. some have a defined FAP number for each side, depending on who is attacking and who is defending. Others use a random number. There should be a table for generating the FAP number in there somewhere...
