No sorcery summoning spells in MRQ?

Mongoose
For some reason I cannot find any Sorcery summoning rules in my MRQ books. Come to think of it, I don't recall seeing any Divine Summoning spells either.... is this correct?

Summoning is mostly tied to specific cults or practices. Overall though, I guess its not overly "gloranthan". Heroquest generally omits it

The actual entities that you can summon are generally governed by the type of magic you are using and the cult/school that you belong to. Both spirit magic and sorcery have spells to facillitate this.

As a broad overview, summoning covers demons, spirits, ghosts and elementals, plus a couple of otherworldly entities that don't fall into those categories.

Cults vol 2 has stats for ancestral, animal, plant, intellect, power and magic spirits, plus The Bad Man, Parts of the Bull (Storm Bull Cult Spirits), Chaos Spirits of Thed and Thantari Guardian Spirits.

Other entities are in RuneQuest Monsters and the RuneQuest Companion.

Note that the actual rules for handling spirits and spirit combat are also in the Companion, not in the Cults book.

As the summoning rules are written right now in cults II.... don't realy care for them much. They are quite a bit too time intensive and a bit magic intensive.... Stuff can be summoned, having the MPs left to dominate it is another story. I'm not sure how I would work out the rules for Rune or Divine magic. My sorcery summons would work out like this.

Summon (type) Spirit

Casting Time 10

The magnitude of the spell counts towards the MP total needed to summon the critter, in addition the caster may spend another 10 actions chanting and another MP.

It depends what type of spirit you're trying to summon - if it's just for a fetish, you don't need MPs to dominate it, as the Create Fetish spell handles all of that.

You need enough MPs to cast Spirit Screen, cast Create Fetish, and then enough to cover the POW of the summoned spirit. SS could be cast by someone else though, and with stored power you should have enough to do it.

Summoning and binding spirits is tricky and MP intensive, and rightly so - that's why not every gloranthan can do it
