Nice Softbacks

Cosmic Mongoose
I have bought a few of the new Softbacks recently and I must say they are very good indeed. The quality is better, they are only half the width of the Hardbacks and they look like RPG supplements.

I even bought RQ Deluxe in Softback, despite having the original supplements in hardback.

Let's hope Mongoose can keep up this level of physical quality. I'm sure the contents will be good.

Saw a few of them at the store, and they do look very nice. I like the hardbacks for durability, but I'll take the perfect softbacks over warped hardbacks

I was shocked, dismayed, and disappointed to see Monsters II in softcover at my local game store the other day. Well, maybe that's overstating it, but I was surprised. Is this going to be common/universal for future MRQ books? Apologies, since I imagine this has been covered elsewhere; but this is the thread I found when I went looking for details. Should I rush out and by the books I want in hardcover before they disappear to be replaced by the softbacks? or is it a title by title thing with some books to be available in both formats?

I like to have books that I can afford. I might buy more books that way. And as for durability, I haven't noticed much difference under normal use.

I prefer hardback. It is more durable. Corners of softcovers just ends folding. In addition it is also sold by the same price.

Well, I am halfway through reading the Slaine book, and it has already fallen apart, by which I mean every page up to about page 80 has falled out. And that was a hardcover.

Whether I prefer hardback or softcover depends a lot on page count. If there are more than 200 pages then hardcover is better, while if there are less than 150 pages then softcover is better.

But in general I want high quality for low price, like anybody else. I am basically paying for content and artwork, not for hard or soft cover. But a book that is falling apart is a book I won't be buying unless at a heavy discount.

Soft covers are better than warped hard covers, but in general I prefer hard cover books. If there was a enough of price difference between the original hard cover editions and the new soft cover ones, I might be more inclined to purchase them over the hard cover editions. I didn't see a price difference.
Is Mongoose planning to discontinue hard cover books?

No, we still produce hardback books where appropriate - such as with Traveller, Spycraft and Cthulhutech.

What about RuneQuest? Will RuneQuest books that were originally published with a hard cover continue to be published with a hard cover? Will there still be new Rune Quest books published with hard covers? If a RuneQuest book has been published with a soft cover, such as Monsters 2, does that mean there will not be a hard cover version of that book?

I wasn't sure I was ever going to get my Runequest Deluxe replacement (mail lost the first one sent to me) so I went ahead and ordered one, got it yesterday. The softcover quality is superior to the hardcover I had last year, which fell apart the first day I ran a new Runequest game....so nice to have a real book for the next game, instead of a sheaf of paper!

I'm tempted to upgrade my RQ Spellbook next....it never fell apart, but I'd just like to have one in the same soft cover format. I think I really do prefer that to hard cover.....eight years of hard cover madness has soured me, I guess!

Glorantha Cults 1 & 2 should be combined and published as a softcover. I would buy that. ... just my 2p 8)
I would then also include Magic of Glorantha in the lot.
And this make a total of 4p.

Just received my Deluxe softcover. Perfect quality, printing- and binding-wise.

And, as far as I have read it, also rules-wise. I was dubious at first, but it seems THE version of RuneQuest to come back to the system after fifteen years ...

Oh, I should also state how pleased I am that ships and seafaring are included - as was in 3rd edition - and DRAGONEWTS among the basic array of creatures! I love dragonewts. And Slarges ...

And the Mother of Monsters, of course.
