Cosmic Mongoose
I was just thinking (yup I know, on a friday too!)
we get a lot of newer players (and some older ones) asking about fleet strengths, weaknesses and composition, how to beat fleet x and Y.
now, we had the tactical guides in S+P, but many of us disagreed with them. SO I was thinking, we have a wealth of experiance on this board, why don't we do some? a quick overview of each fleet, how to overcome it's perceived weakness, and how to deal with different opponents. now then, it owuld need some co-ordination, and maybe editing into a nice PDF for each fleet that we could stick in the player resources.

for example, LBH on the ISA, Tank on early EA, Katadder on centauri and so on

Thoughts?

I'm working on Dilgar myself but some forum input would be desirable. Writing a guide alone is dangerous as other players may have tactics or strategies the writer isn't aware of.

Not a bad idea :)

However most of the long term players (including myself) I'd suspect may still be getting to grips with the changes in 2nd ed to the game overall and to their 'main' fleet.

I'd have been happy to write something about Crusade EA but with 2nd eds changes (especially to my beloved Chronoses :P) its gonna be a while before I would consider myself an 'expert' on crusade EA again :P And I'm playing Centauri mainly at the moment now theyre a proper wolf pack fleet (as they alsways should have been imho :P) and given the last tourney standings I'd say I've got plenty to learn about Centauri. Still I will write something about Crusade EA in general terms soonish. :P

That said I'm not generally a tourney player and usually dont worry about things like victory points and am more concerned with the overall flow of the battle so my tactics differ accordingly ;)

Still its definitely a good idea :)

Would be cool =)

Specially the Dilgar strategies from Scorpioni is something I would very much appreciate :P :P

...just got my first patch of four ships clued. Looking very good =)..a Targrath was cut of from the "middle"...so a little extra work was needed =(
...it´s good that I have a few friends who has painted miniatures before cause I´m more then lost in that area

How rude ;)

I'm hoping to post a readable version by the end of next week. David the denied is reading through an early version (I hope ^^)

Do we really need to handicap new ISA players that badly?

j/k :P

We were all thinking it, Triggy was just the first to have the nerve to say it ;)

(seriously though LBH is no worse than the rest of us really, hell, he came higher in the tourney than me by a fair margin (though I blame my getting owned by Gaim and horrific dice in game 3 (or more accuratly my OPPONENTS horrific dice in game 3....) mainly ;))

He just suffered from the universal rule of wargaming: Painted models are luckier than cardboard counters

Nah, he was just first to think of a way of phrasing it that wouldn't attract the Mod Stick!

Burger, I explained my reasons for modding, now put your sour grapes down and get back to the good natured jesting eh

In response to Locutus, I was the best ISA player at the recent tourney, and gubbed the other ISA player 17-3 in the final game, though it was close till the end

Over on the Privateer Press Forums, they have seperate Tactics sub-forums set up for each of the Factions. The best include sticky topics concerning how best to build a Faction after the Faction Box, tactics with individual and grouped models, even how to fight against certain opponents.

Best thing about them is that they're "living" and so can be updated and corrected with new editions, FAQ's and new models. I certainly think it's something we can replicate here.

I think this is a great idea, and also think that following something like wererogue suggested would be Very organized.

something I definatly look forward to.

I would be happy to contribute my expertise on my beloved Braikiri, if we want to go with specialized league fleet guides, rather then a generic LoNAW fleet guide.

I've just written a one paragraph summary for every fleet as part of my tournament tactica article but unfortunately you'll have to wait for the finished article :)

The article's going fine although I do feel the need to point out that this will be going to Mongoose first, so no massive forum post at the moment :( sorry.
