New Vuldrok List

the supposed reason for the change was about frigates of otehr races being unable to take on the big ships, which is the same problem vuldrok frigates have only twice as hard to do.

Hmmm. Just got funny idea on the Myrkwyrm. It's fast, it's extremely manouverable, it's agile and it has ram3. Oh and it's ridiculously cheap. Look for around 7 of these buggers for every destroyer :D

With the speed and agility swarm of those should be able to outflank enemy into sector where they don't face that much firepower. Then simply ram the enemy :D In mass!

Agile helps a lot for hitting and 3 of these hitting takes out destroyer without even criticals...

Sure they die of somebody says "boo" but being about as cheap as they are you aren't really that bothered if opponent wants to spend time shooting at them rather than your real ships and even just couple that gets into position...And with you having 7 of them(oh and you'll be init-sinking your opponent big time :D) you can afford to lose several and you still have threat he cannot ignore. 50-50 on getting critical plus d6*3 damage is never a good thing.

Dreadnought requires 8 hits without criticals to go down and faces 20 of these buggers...As you can't split AD between ships he could get swamped real fast!

Hmmm...How much do these ships cost in money? I think I'll get suicide squadron or two of these :D

Guns...BWAH! Let's use the ship as a weapon instead :D

Though I admit there's something to be said about swamping target with boarding parties too. But ramming takes out ship faster(plus it's so fun to yell "GIVE ME RAMMING SPEED!")

You beat me to it (though with a different end result!).

Speed is the key weapon for both this and the light frigate. No, they don't stand up to a lot of firepower but, with their raw speed, they are perfectly able to blast past broadside fire arcs where they can spend the rest of the game harassing the edge of the enemy fleet.

Unless, of course, the enemy destroyers turn to cover those arcs but if they do that and spare the rest of the Vuldrok fleet, well, that is a legitimate use for the little guys too!

In the playtests we have been running here, there has been a fair amount of success with these vessels - but no, they are not buiolt to go toe-to-toe with, well, anyone!

BTW personally I'm not that fussed about frigate vs dreadnouhgt(my principle has always been big guys deal with big guys, small guys deal with small guys. I'm also not fan of cloning just some cheap ship all the time). I'm actually tad more concerned about fighters...How to defend vs those? Sure could do with fighters of my own! Or gatling lasers! Or SOMETHING!

Seeing as how even the weak weapons can hurt vuldrok nevermind the bombers...How to prevent enemy from swarming you with fighters?

Decados light carrier with mix of two fighters=270. Several of these and then stand back and blast the vuldrok ships piece by piece. With dodge's etc they ought to be reasonably safe against return fire.

One bee sting might not kill you but hundred can...

Matt has said in an email that armoured ships should ignore weak weapons.

Ah! That helps a bit :) Only leaves the bombers then but atleast they have weaker dodge's. Though inability to spread the AD's hurts a bit. But guess that's good reason to have bunch of cheaper ships :D They have less AD's to waste on overkill anyway ;) Plus are manouverable enough that hunting those bombers ain't that big problem.

But then vuldrok has slight advantage here right? Shields can be burned leaving ship free for weak weapons to wear down. Armour can't be worn down...

Seeing as they don't have fighters themselves, seems fair...

Clanger and I had a game tonight. It was very, very close. http://forum.mongoosepublishing.com/viewtopic.php?f=103&t=49410
