No, in CT there was no reference to metric tons. EVERYTHING was Dtons. So an Air/Raft took up 4 Dtons, carried 4 people and also could haul 4 Dtons of cargo.
That is one interpretation.... In my copy of CT it explicitly implies a weight not a volume of cargo, but late editions of CT were less clear. But, as always YMMV....
