This sort of thing greatly contributed to my general weariness of the games industry. I've had some quite fascinating personal attacks over things that I wrote, and things that some people *assume* I wrote because they suck.
Ironically, a certain segment of the traveller community does like my work - but insists on praising Hunter Gordon for it. Can't tell the difference between company owner and main author.
This is one reason why I like the Mongoose traveller setup. Most of the people who'd be on my case are instead sitting around discussing how much they hate Mongoose (whether they've seen a given product or not), so the Mongoose audience is composed of two groups:
1. Those who're a bit more open minded about the game and don't care about fighting the Canon Wars.
2. New players who have never heard of the Canon Wars.
This is a god thing.
