New S&P

well from previous tactical articles from him we know he doesnt actually know the rules :D

he also says that a WS carrier will still have a fighter on board after doing a scramble, assuming there's a CAP out, whereas we all know fleet carriers can have half their fighters out at the start of the game so doesnt need to scramble to launch the remaining 4.

Ok, I am in the middle of reading it and I saw something odd...

{The Xeel} carries two dozen fighters, and between the CAP and the early scramble it will have three quarters of them in the air

Now, not wanting to steel any of Mongoose's IP, I see that the Xeel has 4 fighters on-board. Meanwhile, the Patrol level fighter selections list 3 stands per Patrol. So, without trying to be critical, nor insulting, I want to verify my understanding of the rules and (perhaps) get a better understanding of where this author is coming from.

First off, I (by extension, our LGS) was under the impression that the Xeel only gets 4 stands of fighters, not 4 flights of 3 stands. How could we, be mistaken?!?

Second, even if you multiply 4 by 3, you get 1 dozen, not 2... How does this author come up with 2 dozen? Perhaps he means if there are 4 stands and 6 models per stand, you get 24 total fighters?

As far as I have read the article, the writer talks about individual fighters, and not flights. In the books the fighters are listed as number of flights. And the writer of the article talked about number of fighters.

I think he used a 1:6 multiplicator, so 6 fighters that he mentioned would be 1 flight.

A flight is a single stand of (usually six) fighters. The rules always talk about flights, and never use the term stand.

A wing is a single selection of flights from the fleet list, giving you 1-8 flights to bring to the table.

thanks everyone... I KNEW I was mis-reading the article. Something was just not sinking in.

So, most of the article was referring to how many fighter models you would paint (assuming 6 per stand).
