This battle report pits the UNE against the Akoran Empire during a playtest session. This was a 5 point skirmish.
UNE Fleet
The core of the fleet was a battle squardron centered around two Krazny Kavkaz light cruisers and 4 Gorshkov class corvettes as there escort. In addition he decided to take a Ticonderoga class Missile cruiser and with his last point he purchased another 4 Gorshkov corvetts (they are two for one). These last 5 ships formed a bombardment squadron. He deployed the Battle squadron out front with the bombardment squadron following behind the main group by about 12 inches.
The Akoran Fleet
This player decided "go big or go home" was the name of the game. Unfortunately the rule that states if you can form a battle squadron at your PL (this does not mean you have to buy up to higher PLs to make the squadron) then you must form a battle squadron. He decided to take a Senitan Line Cruiser to form the center of his fleet and then support it with a Pyron AFC cruiser. With the ships of the line chosen he needed the escorts and only had 2 FAPs left. This ment like his UNE counter part he was forced to choose a 2 for 1 patrol ship. He purchased 4 patrol cutters and with his last point he took a Ventoric Heavy Destroyer bringing his total to 5 escorts and two Ships of the Line. He lost the roll to choose deployment so the enemy was deployed dirrectly accross from his force.
Turn 1
Fairly uneventful. Both players moved there formations forward. The Senitan fired its primary battery (which is a devistating Heavy Phaser Cannon) but missed. The UNE launched all available missiles which also depleted the Krazny Kavkaz's missile battery (its only one shot).
Turn 2
The turn begins with missile movement. The Ticonderoga's counter of 10 missiles veired to the left to go around his own formation while the Kavkaz's tokens barrely missed each other. However the Port side launchers must have had faulty tracking systems because the missiles confused a Gorshkov with an Akoran Patrol Cutter and attacked it instead when they passed too close. Two missiles struck home and fortunately did minimal damage. Both formations moved forward with the Senitan and Pyron taking a slight turn to starboard to maximise there fire arcs. The Ventoric lined up its light phaser lances on the left hand Kavkaz. Since the Akoran player won initiative this round he fired first. His AFC batteries destroyed a squadron of UNE fighters while the Senitan unleashed a murderous volley on the left hand Kavkaz and one shot pierced the reactor core scoring that every deadly Internal crit of Vitals 6 which thanks to the UNE special rule caused a catastrophic explosion that vapourized the ship and sent a highly charged plasma wave at everything within 10". Two missile counters and a full squadron of fighters was vapourized with the Kavkaz and the Gorshkov's took minor damage from the explosion. One of the Patrol Cutters was fortunate to be out of the blast by 1/8th of an inch. The return fire was fairly unimpressive.
Turn 3
Missiles move, setting up for the next round and the Terrans won the initative so the Akorans slow down and prevent themselves from over shooting the Terrans. The Terrans mix it up in the Akoran formation and one Crippled Gorshkov attempts to ram the Pyron by misses the ship. Terran shooting is massively more effective when the combined firepower of the Battlesquadron drops the shields of both Akoran cruisers and scores hits on the Pyron. The Senitan savages the remaining kavkaz and a great deal of Akoran firepower from other ships fails to penetrate the armour sparing the light cruiser for one more round.
Turn 4
Missiles move and with so many Terran and Akoran ships in close proximity another Gorshkov is attacked. It is more fortunate the the other and only one missile hits. There is good news though a missile volley strikes the senitan causing substantial damage. The Terrans won initative again and he decided to move a formation first. The Gorshkovs of the Battle Squadron broke off and accelerated as fast as they could as the Terran fleet began a tactical withdrawl. The severely damaged Kavkaz decided to follow her sister into the afterlife and successfully rammed the Ventoric. Unfortunately the Ventoric survived the collision and the Kavkaz did not explode. The Bombardment squadron also Accelerated rapidly and with only the Senitan's main gun in range (which missed) the Akoran player let the UNE fleet go (as if they could ever catch them).
