New Jump Fuel House Rules (Revisited) - And Business Plan

Since I was able to finally create the ship of my vision, thanks to the help of various board members:

----------

Imperial Express Courior
(When It Absolutely Has To Be There In One Week)
200 tons
Model 5/bis
Model 3 (data storage)
J-5 M-3 (2 weeks operation)
1x3 Beam Laser (VHY, Acc, Res)
1 Purifier
2 Double Occupancy Staterooms
0.25 H2O (for extended life support)
9.5 tons cargo (woopie!)

The business model is to cater to small and mid sized corporations whom it is not economically feasible to operate their own jump 5 ships.

Then there is the added advantage of getting news and stockmarket information ahead of the express boat service...

The ships will jump directly to gas giants, refuel then jump out, until they reach their destination.

----------

I have decided to keep the basic fuel rules with the possibility of adding the following house rules:

1. Only the PP fuel is required be refined for a safe jump. Since the PP powers the jump engines and jump fuel is used primarily to expand the jump bubble refining the jump fuel serves no purpose as far as I can see.

2. PP fuel is not consumed during ships travel through jump space. (There is plenty of energy that can be tapped from outside the ship. This will also help fix the horrendous endurance of the 200 ton traders.)

Your opinions are desired.

To save me calculating it, how much fuel? I know it's over 100tons, but what by?

Can't really see the point of your new rules mod, especially the first, as pp and m-drive don't need refined fuel anyway, refined fuel is advantageous for jumps, not routine use. If pp fuel not needed during jump, then what is the point of the first rule?

Your issue with limited endurance with a 200ton trader is a bit of a red herring, if you want more endurance, add a bigger tank, and accept the loss of cargo space that will entail. The Far Trader 2 week endurance works fine in most circumstances (refuel, one week in jump, one week to fly to next space port etc (you must have a very inaccurate jump for this to be a problem, if you hit the 100d limit, it should be a matter of hours, not days, before you can refuel)).

Personally, I take the jump FTL as a given, and design ships etc to work with it, so am not prone to much tickering with that aspect of MgT, whatever I might do with other aspects.

But its your Trav as much as anyone elses, modify what you like!
