New Hyperion

I don't remember the rule off of the top of my head, but is it something about accelerating a rotating object causing a force along the axis? (Thereby pushing the hyperion either up or down?)
If so, I would have though that they could at least compensate for that effect in the thruster control computers.

yeah, that's whay most scifi ships with rotating sections have them around the long (thrust) axis. Discovery (2001) and the Leonov (2010) both have them on this axis. the old bicycle wheel experiment on a stool shows this...

I hope the new Hypes are better than the old ones. As a side note, I would want to see an early Hyperion for the Early Era List as lasers were much less common(also a possibility to erase the laser-twofler) and it would have particle cannons (read, simple beams, no dd) and plasma cannons.

Just my 0.2 cedits.

Mannnn, I like what I am seeing and I like the idea, I DID want to complete a special group of 5 assault Hyperions, and I only have two of the current molds, they would look even better with a couple of these newer ones on the table, hmmm, looks like I better get busy and grab three more.

I do like what this portends however, and also hope to see this for other ships, not just EA either (tho those are the ones I am most likely purchase) adds a ton of flavor!

Where are the mounting points for the Hyperions as this is always a difficult issue for the model.

I read somewhere on the forum that they were thinking of making it forward of the "conning tower".

so they would have the base mounting in the
same spot as the FA scale ones ?

I really appreciate the idea would make them more stable.

Cheers - it would make sense from a stability point of view.

They look pretty decent, I was expecting something more from the command version though. Kinda seems like a down graded version of the regular one.

It is, the Raid PL version in 2e loses it's twin-linked plasma cannon and rear laser but gains a command bonus. It has it's old-style plasma turrets upgraded to Pulse turrets.

The new models look great - the prow on the old AoG cast always was wrong, and the gun barrels are a definite improvement.

Well lot's of positive noises concerning the new Hyperions then :) .

Concerning the basing arrangement; most of the new ships will not have guns mounted on the lower section where the old version had it's base mounting point. This will give a much better mounting area, flat and still at the balance point of the model. Those variants which do have the lower guns; the guns themselves will be slightly wider than those on the old models, this will also give a much sounder point at which to mount the ship.

I like it. It's also one of my favorite ships so I am happy to see it getting redone.

Speaking of the Olympus, does anyone know if the new, smaller, two pack is what is generally available now when you order from stores? I'd hate to order some just to get more of the old ones.
