Mongoose
Hi!

a few friends of mine and I just discovered that there is a miniature game to B5...JOY :D

...well after a few weeks of bondering, going through this forum, looking and wondering about the ship stats at Diggers homepage, checking what u can get to Finland(where were´re from) we finally came to an conclusion of which races we should take. We could actually figure out alot about the ships stats cause my friends play confrontion and warhammer, if Diggers stats are correct is another thing, cause we neither have the rulebok or fleet list yet(2d both).

I got(atleast) EA third age and Centauri as opponents, and maybe another race, depending on if a another friend decides to start playing. Both players went with the new fleet box+the reinforcement box...yes a few stores here still sell the old fleet boxes and reinforcment boxes(atleast there are no reinforcement box at mongoose).

No clue if anybody in Helsinki plays B5, there are people who LARP and play the card game but haven´t seen(or paid attention to mini. games)

I took the last old box in Finland for Dilgar, it looked WAY better then the new one.

Well I actually just wanted to ask what individual ships I should take besides my box, which contains the following(if you already forgot what´s in the old box =)

48 Thorun Dartfighters
1 Mishakur Dreadnought
1 Tikrit Heavy Cruiser
1 Garasoch Carrier
4 Targrath Strike Cruisers
2 Ochlavita Destroyers
2 Jashakar Scout Ships

...I was thinking an additional Garasoch(alot of fighters for a small carrier), and maybe a few Omelos. 4 Targraths seems like enough, and with a Mishakur I think I got the big firepower I need, so one good carrier and a few smaller ships sounds good to me, what do u guys think? Money is an issue so I only want 3 more ships

The pentagon formation can be created without having same ships in it right? and how many ships does it need?

thanks for the answers, a few pointers would be cool to(I know my fighters kinda suck, and the best think I can do with them is ram them in those darn Vorchans and Omegas

You'll want a second garasoch.. HOWEVER

48 fighters makes only 8 flights when you base them 6 on a base

A garasoch contains 10 flights
A Mishakur 4
A targrath 2
A tikrit 2

what you need are EXTRA fighters (I'd take some new Torpedothoruns :D)

Dilgar fighters rock btw they are the fastest in the game, have decent weaponry and, in 2E, come in very large numbers

If your going to use lots of fighters Id highly recommend looking up the 'player resources' thread and printing out some fighter counters, they may not look as pretty but they will save you a fortune in the long run (you can also play ACTA entirely with counters if you like, frankly its just nowhere near as fun as playing with little toy omegas and Vorchans etc but its handy if you want to get up and playing while you wait for minis to arrive/get built/painted :P)

If playing Dilgar I would humbly submit that the Tagrath is your best friend in the whole wide world. You'll be wanting lots of them :D

...I was thinking about getting some more fighters too, the Torpedofighters are slower(still fast right? 15?) then Darts but is it worth the anti-ship torpedo ?

Yeah , I kinda got the impression that the Targrath is the way to go, but do I really need more then four?

...I would need 3 packs of those torpedo fighters(6£ each :F )
I could get maybe two packs and and targrath but that would be it. would it be a playable pack togheter with the old fleet box?

Locutus I do think I would like figures over counters...although I wouldn´t need THAT many counters if I would get two packs of torpedofighters, and then an and targrath :D

thy.

ouh...and I have this wierd bug(rapported) that showes every post and reply would be made on my birthday

kinda hard to find new posts etc.

What you really need to do is stretch the fighters you have. Mount them four to a base and you get 150% as many flights as if you mount them six to a base as standard.

Make it three to a base and you get 200% as many fighters as you would have doing it the standard way. Heck, you can mount them two or even just one to a base, and stretch them out to crazy numbers of flights. None of it's official, you just need a model to represent a flight of fighters, so you can mount as many as you want to the base.

True the Targrath is a monster but since you already have 4 I don't think you need any more.

An extra garasoch is handy. It brings more interceptors... erm.. fighters :D

Those Torpedothoruns can be really mean against lowlevel vessels with hull 4 or 5. paint the target with a scout and reroll all those torpedo attacks for maximum effect. or use them en route to the enemy vessels by supporting your normal thoruns in dogfights. the fighter support rule effectively cancels out the lower speed in most situations.

(oh and david... checked your inbox?)

A great ship to use along your Mishakur is the Tikrit. Your opponent will have a headache deciding wich should go down first ^^

Yes, they're damn fast, especially compare to league fighters they just run dipsy-doodles around 'em :)

I myself have 4 jashakars but I'm planning on adding at least 4 more.

I use a mix of Jashakar scout and Jashakar Tae ships and find them very deadly when grouped into pentacons.

They have incredible firepower for a patrol ship (incredible may be a bit too much but still). I now use a pentacon of 2 tae's, 2 scouts and 1 Targrath and any target at the receiving end of their 24AD bolters is... well... spacedust
