Soulmage
Mongoose
Played a game vs. the Soviet navy last night using the new aircraft rules from OOB. It was a 5 point battle.
My fleet:
USS South Dakota - South Dakota class BB
USS West Virginia - Colorado class BB
USS Brooklyn - Brooklyn class CA
USS Portland - Portland class CA
USS New Orleans - New Orleans class CA
USS San Francisco - New Orleans class CA
USS Atlanta - Atlanta class CL
USS Juneau - Atlanta class CL
His fleet (not too familiar with Soviet fleet list)
3x DD
1x DD leader (4 point destroyer!)
3x CAs
2x WWI era BBs
2x carriers
Overall the US fleet slaughtered the ruskies. We called it after one of the soviet BBs, all the DDs, and all the CAs were sunk, plus heavy losses amongst the airplane contingent
- in exchange for moderate damage to 2 US CAs, 1 sunk CA, and heavy damage to the South Dakota.
The soviets just lacked the firepower necessary to deal with the tonnage the American fleet represented. The soviet aircraft had a somewhat disappointing performance from his perspective. Admittedly, they went after the two American battleships that were being screened by three cruisers, two of which were dedicated AA variants. I guess with the new rules I had expected the aircraft attacks to be much more devastating than they turned out to be. . . but I feel like the points spent on aircraft carriers really hamstrung his ability to deal large amounts of damage over and over.
I must say though that I do like how "cheap" all the American cruisers are now they they've been bumped down to skirmish. . . I do plan on picking up a couple of those sexy Baltimore class CAs though!
