Neural Comm vs Neural Link

What are some more ramifications of the neural link vs. the neural comm? Computer level? Does the neural link represent a wired nervous system, or just tapping into the motor centers of the brain? Could a neural link be hijacked to remotely control someone’s body? Could you program a sequence of movements into a neural link for triggering later?

A neural link is presumably used with another computer, e.g. wafer jack or external computer?

I suppose it depends on how trans-human you want you campaign? I would only allow read access to the nervous system, so no remote control of sophonts (unless it is illegal slave-tech?).

Except that a Neural Link allows the use of physical skill based expert systems, so it would seem to have more than read-only access to the CNS.

It's still, just like with mental skills, you doing the task with the help of an Expert system. I do not at all see any remote control involved.

If you want to use Intellect + Expert to hand the task over completely to the computer while you are thinking about something else, that would require remote control. And obviously risk being hacked and remote controlled by some random hacker...

Computer level (though my Pirates of Drinax character has a custom one using the best of both types). More importantly, one can do physical skills as well as mental, while the other is mental skills only.

I find it very unlikely that a neural link could be hijacked. Wetware brains just don't have the same security vulnerabilities as ordinary computers. If you want to hack people, that's called "social engineering", and it doesn't require any special hardware to perform.

(Granted, Agent of the Imperium posited that a specialized wafer can hijack a person for about a month. But that doesn't require a neural link or a neural comm, just a wafer jack - and it directly hijacks the higher brain functions, rather than directly puppeting the body.)
