just noticed that the british infantry section are wearing gloves, even tho its a good idea to when ya cold, the practice of wearing gloves when handling a weapon is severly frowned upon.

my poor flalanges, to many cold wet nigths on exercise  i remember all to well the stern angry NCO. in the end my section cut the half the finger off the trigger finger of the glove, we got to keep our gloves after that :D

i dont know too many yank troops who go into battle without gloves anymore... not so much for the cold weather aspect of it, just that everyone likes to protect their hands.
the thin flight gloves seem to be the most popular.

very helpful when you have to pat down 30+ iraqis.

Hmm, I never get gipped for handling weapons wearing issue gloves when on FTX  Mind you, it may be a unit-by-unit thing. Were you Inf by any chance? maybe you do it different to us REMFs :P

The increasing use of thermobaric weapons on the battlefield such as RPO-A and various new warheads for RPGs will probably drive a change in soldier' protective equipment more towards blast and flash protection as well as ballistics, so flash-proof gloves, anti flash hoods and goggles are likely to become the norm.

As an aside, are there any special rules for thermobarics in BF:EVO?

skillness whats REMF and FTX?? never heard these before

i was royal artillery but i did my basic to inf standard.

We never used to wear knee protectors either, ard as rock, none of your wearing gloves and gortex when I was a Young un,

thats way I have knackered knees and fingers that turn black in the cold, lol

you can fire your weapon with gloves on, Artic mittens on string thats another topic.

mmmmmm Gortex, i loved my gortex as well as my snugpak jacket, good old contact gloves missing fingers!!

first person to guess why some peoples gloves had a hole in the palm gets a biscuit

What about the old Ho Che Min fighting suit, top and bottom, best nest thing since sliced bread apart from US Army Cot beds,

Anyone else turned themselves into a Ninja Turtle with their gonk bag and long johns?...or was that too much CO2 from my 3/4 ton lany blowing into my 9x9 that night. lol

the time before H&S !!

Cheers

I used to wear sealskin gloves which were awesome when working in water and had great grip to boot as well. My Ho-Chi Min outfit never saw the light of day - I picked up a buffalo shirt as soon as I could.

The gonk-bag ninja-turtle outfit served me well when we had a surprise fancy dress party to get ready for :)

I recall Mechanix Gloveswere a popular item that soldiers in Iraq and Afganistan were requesting from home. Seems there were so many requests, the military actually started to look into all these items soldiers were requesting and evaluate them against the current military issue.

I own a pair that I use for working on cars, and I never thought gloves were that helpful with handling tools but I find the loss in dexterity very minimumal, and the protection great. I've had very few busted knuckles since I've been using these things.

On my Sqn wearing the thin contact gloves or fingerless gloves is pretty common. A lot of guys wear knee pads as well, but you wear them under your clothing or risk ridicule!

we wore knee pads on tob, ridicule often ended in a smack down lol also knee pads are more effective on the outside than the inside., also gloves were often worn, as there is no point in wearing camo paint, and bits of bush if you gonna run around showing of your pinky hands lol.

also in the desert gloves can be good for patrols as the nights are freezing and the day can burn your skin, last thing you whant is burnt skin handling your weapon..oooeeerrrr...

i think goggles would be a good adition as well or atleast protective glases, as i few use them now after being hit in the head from a freindly spent shell being ejected, last thing you want is a shell or gas blowback in the eye, or evan sand !!!! or bits of cover blown around from incomming fire.

all in allthought the figs are looking great.

What about the pre gortex water proofs, you sounded like a crisp packet when you walked, the stealthyness of a herd of elephants at a disco,

what was the point of "contact gloves" unless you did a lot of gardening

Did anyone else like "babies head" compo tinned pie or was I the only one?

ahh memories.........swing a lamp and pull up a sandbag...

During training we were banned from using them for just that reason, unless we were willing to wear them underneath our combat jackets and trousers

I think I tried it once and then decided I'd rather be soaked.

Not that the waterproof s kept you dry whatever as they where so waterproof that not a drop of sweat ever left them so your choice was drenched in rain or drenched in sweat. The only difference between them being sweat at least starts off as warm

Can anyone else remember Herman the German and his Bratty Wagon a Soltau, you could be in a hide for weeks fully TAC and he would still find you, if the Russians had captured him I think it would have been over really quickly...Great Curry wurst though
