My old Vorlons/ISA

Mongoose
Some time back, I bought this game and a couple of the fleet boxes. I got Vorlons and ISA.

I haven't played much in a while but me and a friend still play sometimes. Most of the time games are at raid level with 5 points each.

I have 2 Vorlon heavy cruisers and 2 Victory class ships but I hardly used them much. They were at war level and not practical in the size games we played. I used them a few times just to be stubborn because I have them. It never worked worth a darn but I did it a few times anyway.

I haven't bought anything since SFoS came out. I have been reading comments about the new Armageddon book. It lokos like some of my ships and essnetially all of the Vorlon one have been bumped up in priority level.

The heavy cruisers are at some new level above war now apparently. One costs 2 war points. Correct? The same with the Victory class ships?

It's nice that the Vorlon heavy is tougher now and now so vulnerable to fighters and all but at that level I will never be able to use them for anything. If I was feeling stubborn I could take one at war level. At this level I won't be able to take them at all. They are now paperweights. The same with the 2 Victory class ships I have. I will never be able to take them. That's 2 more paperweights. Also, I will only be able to take maybe 1 Vorlon light cruiser of the 2 I own since it is a war level ship now.

A substantial chunk of both fleets has been rendered mostly useless to me if I use those rules. I would just have the White Stars for ISA and the few smaller Vorlon ships like the transports or destroyers and fighters to take.

That's correct, yes, the VCD and VHC are now both Armageddon PL. There were a number of, quite reasonable, complaints that the Vorlons & Shadows were both greatly underpowered compared to the show, and that the VCD was underpowered compared to it's reputation. So now we have Armageddon PL.

You are right, this does make Vorlons, Shadows and certain individual ships like the Victory pretty much unusable without big, big scenarios. You can't have it both ways!

Play 5 War point games ;)
Or campaigns, which have randomly rolled priority levels and FAPs.

I am down to a single opponent who now has a wife and kids* and not much interest in big scenarios. I don't know if I can convince him to go for 5 war point games.

*actually only one kid but that's quite enough. She's a good kid but a real handful.

Have u considered giving Vassal ACTA a try?
Its great for finding opponents from around the globe. :)

I understand your point, since i usually only play 5PT Raid myself.

I have looked around with no luck but I haven't tried that one.

There is a store across town that carries it. Maybe people there play. The location is very inconvenient for me but such is life. I haven't been able to contact anyone there yet.

There is nothing to stop you continuing to use the SFOS rules, of course! Armageddon is optional.

true. My one opponent use counters or my ships and my copy of SFoS anyway so I doubt he will object.

Our group is not planning on using the Victory as an Arm. level choice so that my local ISA player can still use the two he has. As stated above, for home play the Arm. supplement can be ignored in part or in whole.

Now it isn't quite right to call it optional, as for tourney play or to give battle results as additional playtest experiences to Mongoose should they read the forum, you would need to be using up to date rules. Our group does both, house rules for the Campaign vs current tourney rules for our 'lets test this out' games.

True, but to be pedantic for a moment, those activities themselves are optional 8)

Tourney play might be more of a factor if I knew of any tourneys within a couple of hundred miles of here.

Ah...geographically unfortunate....that is a problem. Always the Vassal tourneys/campaigns, folks seem to like them.
