all of these are my first time asembling and paintin miniatures.
all i use is an acrylic base coat painted on(im too cheap to get spray) and then the rest of the colors i want, all from Game Color paints

I really like that tanker, and the armour on the MI is very well executed. One thing that would help a lot with the exposed skin on the roughnecks is a black wash - water down some black paint heavily and dab it on the faces, letting it collect in the recessed areas. It helps to define shade and give the characters a more realistic tone. You can follow it up with light drybrushes of a fleshtone and a then lighter colour like GW bleached bone if they look too dirty afterwards.

The best way to add basic (and very effective shading) is with either 'Fanatic Army Painter' or with slightly thinned 'Tamiya Smoke' paint.

One of my LGS has recently got "the fantastic army painter" in and while it looks very useful, it's also plenty expensive...

Firefries are nice, proper insect-feeling there
And the tanker is very good, really like the blue hue there
I'd recommend getting either fleshwash from the GW or coat d'arms lines for faces, it's like magic

Shading with thinned down black is also a great thing, you'll want it so thin you don't think it's gonna stick.

They're better than my first minis that's for sure

There are alternatives to the fanatic armypainter, i can't remember what they're called but i think it's about 75% cheaper.... :roll:

yeah, the F.Army painter is basically just that, i don't remember the facts surrounding it all tho, i just can't bring myself to use that kind of stuff yet, i only collect humans orcs etc but it looks great on Bugs of all kinds

Yacth Varnish works the best (and is less smelly and messy than floor varnish), a friend of mine used to use it.

The problem is, getting the 'stain' right as you have to add it.

I've always used Tamiya Smoke, slightly thinned with Thinners.

Thinned ink causes 'pooling', that horrible blotchy shiney effect you get sometimes.

Try adding a dot of dishwashing detergent or some acrylic varnish, it goes on smoother.

hrm yes, i just realised that i use a very different black than most people.. can't remember the name right now but i buy it in 1litre bottles
i don't get the blotchy thing with that..
Vallejo also has a smoke ink btw,, dunno if it's the same as tamiya

The Tamiya on is an alchohol based tinted varnish, so even if you put a little too much on it 'shrinks' down.

Blue is an interesting change of pace. Lets you keep track of your units on the board easily.

i used blue because i like that color and i didnt have any of the real warrior colors(the reds and yellows) so i improvised.

i got my friend hooked on SST but our game store doesnt carry any of the SSt stuff anymore, so were gonna split a starter set, im gonna paint each of us a custom M.I. squad, any color ideas would be nice, here's the names of the future squads.

Prokop's Panthers- iwas thinkin a blue-black color scheme for these.

Dudley's Dingoes-and a desert camo theme for these ones
