My first campaign with my gf!

I'm pretty lucky in that after spending literally the time I joined this forum to now in planning Traveller games and going through them, I eventually got my gf's attention into what I spent most my spare time aside from her.

I'm posting this as today we had our first two player session, basically me as GM with a GMPC (Pirate from Qaal system) and her with her PC (Marine girl from Dynchord system).

We started on the Zhodani ruled Phoummathep, the background being as a couple we had finally come to the day after a month's construction of the Stubby ship I created being built and seeing the planets together. I was nervous speaking at first but as we continued I got more comfortable with GMing with my gf as a player.

Whilst looking for ways to make some money for our first ship payments we come across an Agent (whose affiliation may not be the Solomani Confederation as he says) called Weylan who had urgent business on the moon of Mallory and was willing to pay big for passage there (Weylan being a Patron, I wanted to ease my gf into the game easily without the big accounting from the off).

We made some rolls and although my gf (char name: River) fumbles the Jump roll, we still had some time before reaching the Jump point so after another attempt we got a perfect Jump to Mallory.

At Mallory's space we found some fuel tanks floating out there, which will do to siphon when we leave. We obviously reported the salvage to the starport as we arrived aswell as Weylan's presence on the ship.

I left there, mainly as I need to do a bit more planning, but I think it went well, my gf took in alot of background material and even started thinking of names for our ship and even our freight company!

I'll post here when we have our next session, but I have alot of happiness this campaign will be ongoing

Congrats on bringing her in to 'the dork side'! and best luck witht he game. Looking forward to hearing how it goes.

Very cool, I'm a bit jealous ... Though I do RP with my two sons.

My only advice is to get in early with the tense decision making moments, they may be combat, but in yourcase they may not, but nothing makes a game stick in the memory like a white knuckle moment!!

I will be introducing my homebrew aliens in the next session, partly its to playtest them and also to see how my gf will react as a gamer to one of these climbing round the vents in our ship. It'll definetely be more in tone of Alien than the films that came after

I write this as I know my gf wont see it; The plan is that Weylan, our current Patron, wants on the moon of Mallory where we're currently at, for us to pick up a religious leader/zealot who has a very special package for him, a sample of alien biology, in actuality 3 alien eggs to be delivered to the Solomon Confederation controlled moon of Munnipoor. On the penultimate day of Jumping there, the leader opens the cargo container of eggs and becomes a host for one of the parasites (taking inspiration from the Dark Horse alien comics there).
The two characters, River and Harlock have to deal with their passenger being a host for an alien organism, battling the creature before it makes the pair an addition to its nest all in Jump space alone and then still delivering the cargo (the other two eggs) to Weylan to get paid.

So, that'll be the introductory adventure done and also we'll see how the game will continue based on what happened against the lone Alien. :)

Congrats! And my best wishes for the game!

Bringing your GF or spouse into gaming could be FUN. I brought my GF (now spouse and in a few years my wife) into gaming in 2006, a year or so after we've met, starting with Shadowrun 4E, then D&D 3.0E, then BFRPG and soon Stars Without Number. She enjoys the hell out of it, and, from my experience, this really enriches our relationship.

^ Lol, same circumstances, I chose Traveller for our first game because of the random char generation so my gf could get used to skills and when to use them and the type of char she would want in future games. Throwing her into a game where she has free choice over a list of skills and feats/defects would have been a bit much off the bat, I think.

Ive said in the future if this goes well I'll intro her to Forgotten Realms D&D, which I also own, mainly as she loves elves and would like to play one (thus my new interest in trying to get Darrians  ).

We played session two today, a little early, but my gf was eager to find out what'll happen in the story.
On Mallory we parted ways with Weylan and soon had a call asking to deliver a religious leader (of the Dragon group, a thing I made up), Spence, along with an alien sample (that came in a huge metal crate) to the nearby moon of Munnipoor.
So off we went. On the fifth day in Jump Space, Spence didnt turn up for dinner, so after a quick check in his stateroom which was empty a quick check on the ship's computer stated there were now four lifeforms onboard, the newest one arrived just four hours previous! Well, we found him in the cargo deck, next to the open crate, an open pod within (next to two closed ones) and a parasite latched onto poor Spence. The thing just tightened around Spence when pulled and when River tried to cut its tail off, at first it wouldnt get through the natural silocone armour, then in sprayed acid and wrecked a floor panel (luckily it missed everyone).

We carried Spence to his stateroom and locked him in, keeping watch on him all night. The next morning we found the thing had removed itself from Spence and died. We decided to lock it back in its crate (it could still be used as a sample after all). Spence woke up and when questioned started referring to himself as chosen by "The Dragon". A quick going over by River detected a second heartbeat  Whilst trying to get a blood sample later on, Spence started coonvulsing and we witnessed a creature tear its way out of Spence, who was now quite dead and go up in the vents.
I left the session part way through River going through the vents to force the little snake-like creature into the Airlock as I sat at the ship's computer sealing vent doors on River's orders to maintain the trap.

Has your GF ever seen alien before? If not that would make the adventure 50 times more brilliant for her! If she has it would still be fun.

Actually yeah, we watched it together. As soon as I described the parasite on the face the whole thing started to become a point on trying not to metagame :?

Movies and printed fiction are great sources of inspiration - but its generally best to steer clear of close match-ups. Otherwise, players already have not only their own perspective on things, but can reference an 'official' source for contradictions...

(Of course, the same can also be said of established RPG settings! ;) )

Ouch. Locked in Jump-space is the ultimate "trapped in a lift" situation! I took part in a game where the crew learned they had a cargo bay full of T-800 endoskeletons... and they didn't have the shut-down codes.

It wasn't pretty. :?

Sounds really good so far.

Please tell me how on Earth you got your GF to play a marine? :D

My campaigns with previous GF's were always dilitantes who insisted on playing out every detail of their romantic encounters, which was fun, but just a little wierd hearing "Oh Dreven, oh Dreven!..." instead of my real name. I reciprocated by simply calling her "My Lady". I wasn't about to press my luck!

It seems like you have the right idea by not going into too much financial details.

It started when I was explaining skills before we did char gen. I basically told her to look through the skills in that chapter and tell me which ones she would want more and we'd base the char around that.

She wanted Medic and some Gun Combat ability, so that led to Marine (Support) being the best choice. She liked that idea and having some very good beginners luck with the random number god, got a Marine girl who can kick butt and a free suit of Combat Armour from her benefits!
