Multiclass penalty

I know there is supposed to be an experience penalty for multiclass characters, but my question is why do we need it. I can see in the D&D perspective where one often learns a trade from childhood, but this is Babylon 5 we are playing here and in the modern galaxy it pays to be versatile. Am I alone in thinking that the Multiclass penalty should be scrapped? What do you all think?

It makes perfect sense, the more classes you have, the less time you have to devote to each class.

Bear in mind, there is no penaly for multiclassing until one of your classes is at least 2 levels below any other.

i.e. Teep 6/Scientist 5/Solder 5 is no problem but Teep 6/Scientist 5/Solder 4 is

Ok, here's the thing. In the first edition Page 23 it mentions looking at the PHB for multiclassing rules. However in the second edition, P.23 , and pocket edition P.27, this has been amended to say that there is no XP penalty for multiclassing. I had a look and couldn't see this change listed in any errata o the website so you can be excused for not knowing.

There was a thread many, many months ago in which Matt Sprange mentioned doing away with the penalty.

Well I admit I only looked at the B5 FAQ download.

(USes forum search engine)

The threads discussing Multiclass penalty in the B5 game are here:

Hope this helps, thanks Greg for pointing me in the right direction.
