Monsters Book 2 - What do people want to see

The same way we publish Conan 2nd Edition and Spycraft 2.0 - slowly and laboriously.

Consider this analogy: just because it's possible to eat an entire doughnut in one mouthful doesn't mean that is the optimal way to eat a doughnut. Taking two or more bites is simpler, easier, possibly even quicker, and arguably leads to a more enjoyable doughnut experience.

Nicely put, in a way that I can completely understand and fathom. My sincere respect for that and thanks for taking the time to explain it to me :)

Alrighty, so here's the thing: we commissioned Bryan Steele to write RQ Monsters II and he's done himself proud.

He's written waaaaaay more beasties than we can cram into a single book without making it unfeasibly large.* What this means is that I'm going to cut about half of them.** What this means is that some of the things Bryan's mentioned as being in the book might not make it to the final cut.

So, when you get your copy of Monsters II and can't find the pygmies/penguinmen/lasermonkeys you were looking for, Bryan's not been lying to you, I just cut them to make way for something else.

* No, we can't just 'make a bigger book'. The idea was considered and rejected because 400-page books are seriously difficult to put together - much more so than two 200-pagers.

** I'm currently agitating to polish the cut bits up and turn them into Monsters III - there's certainly enough stuff there - but I have no official word on that as yet.

But, but, but

You COULD fit all (or most of them in) if you

1. Got a decent layout chap
2. Binned the el stupido large fonts for titles and headings
3. Binned el monstrum page borders

These would all free up physical space on a page for more actual content

4. Moving away from the grey page of death

(and doing the things above) would save you so much money on ink that you could afford to have more bloody pages in the book.

Grrrr

Ya, but they need space for the half doughnout.

If they followed my suggestions they'd be able to afford a whole doughnut.

(Although probably an iced bun would last longer and avoid the risk of jamage)

Grrr

I swear that my Green Ronin Thieves' World books must have twice as many words per page than my MRQ books and are easier to read.

I think the background color on the pages is worse in greyscale than with the color books, but either way words per page is not a Mongoose strong point.

I would like to see some monsters for ec line, especially Hawkmoon, at least more traitd/mutations.

There will be a whole load of new creatures in the Elric Companion, and I'm sure Hawkmoon releases will develop other mutations and monsters.
