Mongose Jorune

Eponymous

Mongoose
How about a mongoose edition of Jorune? Thats a game with a great history that needs a new edition. You could do it as a runequest extension or with its own rules.

As an MRQ supplement it has some limited possibilities

as its own game it would be still born

it died a slow ignominious death for a reason

With new rules I would so buy into this game, IMHO one of the best setting of any Rpg. Either Runequest or Traveller should work wih minor adaptation.

Jorune was made by the artwork, IMO. If Mongoose could get Miles Teves on board, it might fly - but I'm not sure he's as affordable now as he was back in the 80s when he was one of the pals who put out the first edition. You'll notice he doesn't even list Jorune in his resume. There are a couple of examples of his Jorune art on his website, though - BTW, does anyone else think the "beauty" in his Beauty and the Beast looks uncannily like Aeryn Sun from Farscape?

On the other hand, the main reason the last (3rd?) edition failed, IIRC, was because the rules were cobbled-together, poorly tested, and had bits missing. RQII looks like it might do a tad better in that department.

You'd have to get the family / rights holders to agree first which is why there's not been any Jorune since the Chessex edition (which was nice but rushed together).

Having a complete rulseset that works out of the box, like MRQ, would help. Jorune's a great setting but tends to have wonky and often incomplete rules plus confusing usage of in setting terms in said rules.

Now if only someone could release full color hardcover editions of both Jorune and Tekumel...mmmmm.

Rights issues aside (which is of course always the stumbling block with any franchise), this is why I think Jorune would have a much better chance of success under MRQII. As a setting-only book, with some additional rules to cover the races, the "magic" system, Earth-tec and Shanthic technology.

Laputa (a.k.a. "Castle in the Sky"), with it's levitating crystal core, has always reminded me of the sky realms. However, Farscape has forever ruined the idea of a "Hall of Drenn" for me ...
